    Thread title says it all...

I want a lightweight, fuel-efficient, 'around town and maybe up the ski hill' Taco, and I don't want to break the bank.

There is a 2001 2.7l, 2wd, in great shape...but it has the short bed and my recumbent bike doesn't fit in there. I'm wondering if, somewhere out there, this truck exists in a longbed configuration?

First gen tacos never had the double cab long bed option. You can get that truck with the Xtra cab though.

Thanks. Was afraid of that. Gotta have the double cab (carseat). Guess I'll just have to deal with a short-bed! Maybe one of those bed extenders....

That's probably you best bet. Getting a car seat in an Xtra cab sounds highly unpleasant. if you have the cash you can find 2nd gen tacos in that configuration though.

Yeah....I really like putting as little of my hard-earned cash into vehicles as possible.

I could invest more in a newer truck, but if I understand correctly, the 2nd generations are inherently worse in terms of MPG....bigger/heavier. Even with the smallest motor, it wouldn't get as good of mileage as the 1st gen.

it's like a unicorn, but I doubt there was ever a 4cyl option

Was never a fan of the baby-bed. I've always wondered what folks do with that tiny space.

Keep a water bottle :) I really wish my truck had 7 or 8 ft bed instead of 6. That 2 ft makes a big difference when shopping at Home Depot or sleeping inside.

You could still swap the short bed for the long one, but for that, you'd have to modify your frame (extend the frame and move the bed mounts)
