Why'd you buy your Sport 4x4 instead of OR ?

They cost almost exactly the same and come with the exact same options in regards to BSM, JBL, parking sonar, moonroof etc. The challenge may be on if the website will allow you to build it based on your zip code.

I just built two Tacomas a DCSB 4x2 Sport and a DCSB 4x2 OR and they came it at 36560 and 36530 respectively..with the exact same color, packages, and accessories.

Realistically you are trading a hoodscoop for a locker and sport rims for OR rims, sport grill for OR grill..

I do need a truck as I am constantly hauling fertilizer and other things that would not fit in the back of a SUV and have owned a truck for the last 10 years so I don't see myself going back to a car or SUV.

You are correct. I was comparing more a Sport with a 2WD vs getting an OR 4WD without tech package for about the same price. I've pretty much already decided on the Sport as I like the looks of it more with the color matched flares and bumpers, the Sport wheels, and at least for me The tech package will get more use then the rear locker and crawl would ever get

Eh. Kinda. Like, make em all the same size but put a stupid hood on the middle hotdog. Would be just as functional.

I choose the DCOR because I wanted all the bells and whistles without a hood scoop. It looks stupid and blocks your view. I also figured I could easily upgrade to the sport stuff if I ever wanted it, but throwing on a locker and "better" suspension costs more. I also wanted a manual, so limited was out.

I do. That's why I bought an off road vehicle.

As a first time Tacoma owner I bought the sport DCSB, I was never a fan of fake stuff, but when I saw the inferno with the scoop I just had to get it. Just looked too good to pass up.. After looking at a Z71 then the TRD models I felt no that matter which Tacoma I got it was better then the Z71, its funny though that when you go to a car show, everyone is always surrounding the vehicles with all the fake junk on it, The sport has way more 4 wheel capability then i will ever use. But its there for just in case. It did great in Wisconsin snow.

Well, I saw a guy at Chipotle yesterday driving a Tacoma with a Sport hood and color matched fenders, with a TRD OR 4x4 sticker on the rear quarter panel, and SR5 and Prerunner badges on the tailgate.
Why choose one or the other when you can have it all?

I'm all for changing grills and aesthetics but I never understood the badge thing. There is a quicksand Access cab I have seen that had all the TRD Pro badges, seems like a big waste of money

The inferno looks awesome in the snow. I was surprised at how well it performed all stock this winter.

Of COURSE looks are a factor in buying a truck. Or any vehicle. I think you may not get that people use trucks in different ways and their needs may be different than yours.

Yes, nobody wants an ugly vehicle (usually)!
But, a TRUCK is for work, by definition. It should give you the most work for the bucks, I think.
If you aren't going to haul gear/ equipment/ cargo... then get a SPORT CAR not a "Sport Truck"! ;)
If you are going to haul stuff in the bed and also want the truck to go anywhere possible, then the bucks should go into the truck's ability to get you there (traction controls) rather than pretty colored mirrors or a fake hood scoop... in my opinion, of course. Be smart with your money!

Because I was an off-road newb, and thought the 4x4 would solve for 98% of where I would potentially go. This has so far been true. And I thought the hood skewp was kewl AF looking.

I've upgraded the suspension, added a skid, and cussed the skewp for blocking my view of hazzards while off-road. But, it does look sweet and it does take me to the places I've wanted to go, and a few I've questioned whether I should be going.

And they had a 4x4 in silver, which is what I wanted. It was a sport.

Edit: I don't regret my choice. That said, I would likely go OR if all things were equal and doing it again.

I see now my Sport is a horrible choice and that I should get rid of it. gad zooks what a pile. I will rear end somebody because i can't see over the hood. and because it doesn't have lock rear diff I will never be able to drive off the pavement. What is the approved color? don't want to get that wrong.

It snowed here a few times a year and I go "off roading a few times a year but the truck is on pavement 85% of the time

Prefer the functional "cheap looking black fenders" over the non-functional expensive skoop.

There's a saying .... oh yeah: whatever floats your boat.

I'm perfectly fine with my 17 DCSB Sport 4x4. That being said I may switch to an Off Road in the future if the year to year upgrades seem worth it. 2018 gets toyota safety sense, it's a decent upgrade. I'm hoping by 2020 or 2021 that they will have not a new engine, but updated this one. If they do change engines I fear it may damage resale of all the trucks we currently have, maybe they add a new engine to the mix, but not get rid of the current 3.5.

Plus by 2020 or 2021 I'll have gotten some value out of the vehicle depreciation..

I hated the black fenders at first, after getting more experience off road, I wish mine had them.

Not a gimmick, pal. Land Cruiser owners world wide have had it in their vehicles for a while now. And there is NO BETTER all terrain vehicle than it. The sport is just geared towards a different crowd where a fake bling is more valued.

So I just built my truck on Toyota's website TRD Sport DCSB 6spd MT - $35050. I did the same exact build with the TRD OR DCSB 6spd MT - $35050.

    Differences:

    - Electric Rear locker on the OR, and then the chrome bumper, black trim, 16" wheels - we all know this.
    - Sport SKWEP !! :curls: Painted fenders, bumper 17" wheels etc...

Overall - I say SPORT. Why you ask: The 6spd MT - comes with no crawl control or other fancy off-road tools electronics that I would never trust after a few years of ownership, but as stated does have the electric locker. Overall, I will be doing some off-roading but nothing major. so the Sport is more than enough for me. Also, I personally like the look of the Sport better with the skewp, color match fender & bumper etc so I am happy with my choice. :brianr: Sorry I like these little animation things....:goingcrazy:
