Where Have You Off-Roaded Today? 3rd Gen

Took a trip into the mountains for the first time in a couple weekends and got about 30 trail miles in on the Switzerland Trail and surrounding dirt roads west of Boulder, CO. Yesterday I took it easy as it was my first time with the truck off road.

 

Other than snow, today is the first day I got off road....Off pavement. My brother-in-law has 35 acres....Went out and did some target shooting. Not nearly as picturesque as a lot of guys on here.

 

Took a mini vacation out to Kernville and Ridgecrest CA. Popped by the Jawbone OHV on the way home. Fun trail, prerunner friendly for the most part. Gnarly climb at the 20 mile marker they might struggle on tho.

Mostly. I get out a fair amount and there's always a small percentage that leave some to remember the trip by.

 

Mojave Road this past weekend

 

Not sure it counts as Off-roading, but spent the weekend snowboarding in Mammoth ... 4 feet of new snow over the weekend and perfect, bluebird conditions on Sunday. Only had to use the LRD once, in the morning after super heavy overnight accumulation of snow, and I have to say that I was really impressed. Didn't think it would be much help, but dug me right out. Yes, I put on the chains. Honestly, no choice and the only smart choice given the conditions. I had my fiancé with me and the winds / roads were straight up dangerous. We drove 8 hours, tried to beat the storm, but ended up out in the worst of it at 1:00 am with only about 5 miles left to go. Never seen snow/ wind like that. Weather report said gusts were 80 mph plus. I can say that the Duratracs lived up to their rep as a great snow tire, and IMHO the truck performed as well as anyone could hope for a prerunner in 4 feet of snow. Close to 1,000 miles this weekend and taking the truck in tomorrow for the 5,000 maintenance. Love my truck more and more everyday!

 

Looks like an epic time, this season has been incredible up there. If I wasn't in the desert this weekend I would've made a run up there too.

 

You're not kidding. I took my brand new VW R32 to the Racetrack back in 2007. Was a terrible decision. I found that the faster I went, the smoother—but sketchier—the ride.

 

I aired down to 15 and it was still crap. I think the fastest I did was 28. The truck shook too much when I went any faster. It was terrible

Yesterday did Burro Wash Trail. Out in Las Vegas/Boulder City...takes you down to the Colorado River. Wouldn't say it was stock friendly, but I got through and back. Even helped a Tundra that got stock....and tested out the RCI Skid plate pretty good.
