I'm getting comically bad MPGs (~15) living in San Francisco where it's nothing but stop signs and I'm constantly in 1st and 2nd. As much as I love the truck I am starting to dread first gear. The 0-20 MPH takeoff consumes a ton of gas but you never really generate any speed. I got absolutely smoked off the line by some kids in a manual WRX the other day. It was funny.

Not complaining, not mad, just observations.

I see a new clutch in your future, lol. Especially with how hilly SF is.

I'm laughing/crying because it's the sad truth! I went through 2 or 3 clutches on my 95 taco. Luckily I don't drive to work anymore she should last a good while.

Yes. 2nd gens had it as well. My wife who also is a manual driver often had a hard time because of this feature.

Anyone else turned off there traction control and driven their truck around? It smooths out the acceleration considerably on my truck.

By turning off I mean hold the button 1E90677F-45B9-4165-A194-526A337D9820-2248-000001A01C7FEF27_tmp.jpg till it says track off.

It also allows you to lose traction. The purpose of it is to kill power to any wheel that starts to slip (IE Lose traction) So yes, technically you'd gain a little acceleration by turning it off, but one could argue you're not really gaining anything since your tires are just slipping. But I'll go for the side of, yeah you're gaining a bit of acceleration because the tire is still moving and even when slipping its still pushing the ground instead of being braked by the ECU.

Anyone ever driven stick with a boot on their left foot? Can't be too much different from driving around with snowboard boots right?

thinking I might have to take this approach.

I'm not talking about Hooning out like an idiot I am saying even driving like a grandma it smooths the acceleration out. I fully understand how traction control works and what it is for.

+1 for the smoothing out. When I have extra weight or bodies in the truck I'm finding it's the first thing I do, weather and other conditions permitting.

What do you think so far?

I guess I'm interested to see what I've become numb to lol. Did some off-roading yesterday and am liking this gearbox more and more every time I do :mudding:

The Gearbox itself is buttery smooth compared to my 2nd Gens. I am liking its ease of use too, have not had mine off the pavement yet though.

Teeco - I am going to call my Mom today to let her know

Nevadabugle - Thank you, I'm glad I know now. It would also explain why my girlfriend sometimes complains... I will believe her now.
