I laugh at guys who spend money on " high octane " and think they are getting better .

Big oil loves people like that

I run 87 during normal driving both city & hwy in the Up State, but if I were hauling in the mountains with heavier loads into Hendersonville or Asheville on major hwys I'd switch to 93 to prevent any possible pinging on the steep grades.

Typically, avg 20 mpg watching so the tach doesn't go over 2K whether on the road or city driving. (Always amazed at the jack rabbit off the line folks in the economy cars???)

I tried running super unleaded in my truck and it ran like shit. Felt like I had a boat anchor thrown out back. All that and it cost about 20 cents a gallon more on top of the greatly diminished performance.

    Burnin' regular...

I put 89 in it on the first fillup to potentially balance out any old fuel that had been sitting in there, for who knows how long, as it sat on the dealer lot. Since then, its just been regular.

If I run 87 my engine runs rough, and when I ran 93 I got the same perfomance that I got with 89. So 89 goes in the tank, its cheaper too.

Mid-grade 89 and premium 91 (CA pump gas) have not produced any difference in my 2.7L 4-cyl. I have tried several tanks full of each grade at different times. So it's regular 87 from now on. I have noticed that a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment -- the label says "upper cylinder lubricant and injector cleaner" -- will consistently give about 2 more mpg. Yes I am driving the same way just about all the time, along the same city/hwy routes, hills, etc. Some additives may be snake oil but this stuff works, for me. I use it about every month.

    Won't change a thing.

As some people think they can buy their way into heaven by making huge contributions to the church some think that spending big bucks for gas will make the vehicle run better.

In fact if big oil put out a grade of gas that said super duper grade some people would buy it thinking it costs more so it has to be better

I read all these and was tired of getting 13mpg using 89. I filled with 93 for the last two tanks and have instantly gotten over 15mpg. For me seeing is believing!! No other changes in truck or driving so to me that's proof high test gets better mpg, therefor costing the same or better value for me. To each their own!!

i want to try some 91 next fill up, so is it better to disconnect the battery cable for 10-30 minutes to clear the ecu so the engine can adjust to 91 and it doesn't know that i normally run 87?

For the first 3500 miles on my truck I ran 87. Last two tanks I started running 89 and the difference is very noticeable. Better acceleration and smoother.
