SRS Light won't go out

My Safety Restraint System light is staying on....... Any recommendations other than taking it to the stealership? Thanks guys

 

Sadly the answer is take it to the dealer.

have you installed an amp or anything to your truck?

ive had the same problem with my 08. I took it in once and they said it may just be a malfunctioning light. Kept commin on and off so i took it in again and they pulled apart my interior and said that my power cable running to my amp is messing with the seat sensor. 40 bucks in labor to pull apart my cab...(good joke) and i had to move my wire and it seems to have fixed the problem

 

I had that problem a while back. The plug under the driver's seat was partially disconnected. Pushed them together and problem was solved. Hope that's what it is.

 

Come to think of it, i just put in a CB. Maybe that has something ot do with it.

 

prob clock spring thats why mine is on and havent replaced it yet to expensive

it triggers your airbags located in steering wheel assembly.... i was told as long as i got in an accident and my wheels were strait they would blow, if wheels are turned they will not blow

 

around 500 dollars to fix at toyota, may not be your problem have them put it on there computer

 

So, finally got it in to the stealership. Of course the first thing they try to blame it on without even looking into the problem was my CB radio (i swear they look for anything aftermarket as a scape goat). So $150 to diagnose the prob... the tech said that someone has been under the seat f-ing around, and one of the wires is grounded out, which in turn shorted out the control box between the two seats. I dont get it because the light wasn't on when i bought the truck, whatever. He quoted me $850 to fix it... needless to say, I won't have working airbags for a while. My '93 toyota didnt have airbags and (knock on wood) i didnt get into any accidents. Hope this truck will have the same story.

The "clock spring" is a coiled wire that allows the airbag and stereo controls to be hooked to the steering colum and not twist and break when you turn the wheel. Your airbag can and will deploy regardless of steering wheel position.

 

Well the dealership told me that the airbags would not deploy at all it the SRS light is on, it disengages them i guess

 

That's true SRS lite = no airbag. On some of the European cars I work on the system is smart enuf to know where the problem is and only turn that portion off. Our trucks aren't that smart yet.......

 

The problem can be pinpointed if you take it to the dealer or and independent garage capable of reading the code. No point wasting all that time trying to find the problem - there are literally dozens of possibilities.

 

Are you sure? I have had my light diagnosed, and its the clock spring, and my horn works fine...

 

They already pinpointed it, its a ground under the seat... if you guys are trying to help me out.
