Take a trip to the vet for a full check up and he/she will be able to point you in the right direction. Its gonna be fun at your house for a while, lol. Can't wait for you to post pictures. Congrats on adopting very nice thing for you to do.

If your getting the boxer from a reputable breeder and you may want to have a liter or 2 I would consider a male so that you could have pick of the liter. Its not very often you can actually make money off of a liter of pups, atleast not if your responsible. If you go with the female there is alot of expense involved in getting a liter to 8 weeks then trying to sell them. Or god forbid having to keep extra dogs around for a few months.

I don't remember what all shots our puppy had to get. I think it was 2 or 3 rounds of shots. Rabies goes without saying, distemper is another, I think.

The monthly stuff we use is Heartgard for heartworms and Comfortis for fleas. They've got to be at least 6 weeks for the Heartgard and 14 weeks for the Comfortis and they're both by prescription only (I've got a good friend that's a vet). It might be better to go with something like Frontline or Advantage since they do fleas and ticks and don't require prescription. The prices can be kind of steep, but it's better than if fleas get in your house!

Also get a vet that you can trust and get along with. Kind of like finding a mechanic, except it's for your dog. FYI, they also have pet insurance now. I don't have it, but it might be something to look into.

the cool thing is....one of my friends bred her dogs....full blooded boxers......and is gonna give me one. and i have wanted a lab for a long time.....so definitely gonna adopt. if i had the room...all the "pound" dogs would come home with me.

im still planning on getting a blue tick or heeler later on as well.

    sweet!
