I disagree with this. Even a +2 kit with dual shocks is way beyond a MT rear in terms of keeping up. I would go rear LT with MT front any day over the reverse.

I was more recommending that because if he is on the fence for it, he might not want to go through the bed and have a rear cage, and this would be a decent compromise. Plus if his front end needs replacing anyways, at least give it a little upgrade with the potential to add the secondary down the road.

Does anyone make a SUA leaf pack similar to the Dakar pack in terms of weight carrying capability? I'm not ready to go for a full on custom leaf pack yet.

I am not sure about way beyond, but technically you should have your rear built way beyond the front so this is still solid advice. The rear end should easily absorb anything that is a nasty hit on the front, if you hit something and its bone jarring on the front and rear its not going to be a fun ride. If the front absorbs better and the rear takes the hit even worse then I hope you have a roll cage

The rear should be built, but if your gonna be buying stock length lowers you might as well upgrade to the +2 kit. Only really difference in price is the cost of axles, but for another few hundred bucks you pick up a couple extra inches of travel which is well worth the money, even if you have to wait till you do the rear to be able to take full advantage of the front suspension.

thats what i have as well, just the Race arms for lowers. I thought i did pretty good with Jeff this weekend, definitely not in the LT realm but for what i do and what i did i was very happy with it. 60MPH was my top speed this weekend in Pismo and to me thats fast enough or even too fast without caging and whatnot.

It's actually only an extra inch of travel w/ a +2 kit if you're 4wd because the CV's bind looooong before the CO's or uniballs run out of travel...but that being said the extra width is nice and if you did the same mod that Dirt King offers to the CV's you could turn it into 2 extra inches of travel...I think.

Very much this, unless you can get the LCA used for an awesome price don't bother, a lot of people on here made the mistake of getting lowers and then realizing they they just should have got a +2 kit and been done with it. If you go with TC their plus 2 kit and 3.5 kit use the same shock, so you could keep the shock and change out the LCA,UCA, CVs if you decide later that you want more travel

Dirt king machines out part of the inner cv to allow for more articulation

They offer an upgrade with their 3.5 kit which is a modified inner ( IE: clearanced ) much like what 1st gen guys do with Tundra inners I think.

Here is a copy from DK's website :

Additional 4WD info: To achieve the maximum amount of travel on 4WD models we offer 1” diff drop spacers and the inner CV’s must be internally machined for clearance at full droop. Dirt King offers pre-machined inner CV cores that can be swapped for an additional $120. You have the option to buy just the extend chromoly axle shafts for $649 or a complete long travel axle assembly with machined inner CV’s, new boots, new seals, and packed with Lucas Oil heavy duty grease for $1085. The cost will drop to $975 if you send in your undamaged OEM axles as a core. We provide these options to make the axle installation painless and no special tooling needed.

Neat, sounds like they just bevel the inside of the tripod cup. too bad it wouldnt help a TC +2 kit.

Actually I believe it would technically help any kit as long as your CO and uniballs have the travel available too.

Uniballs are the problem, misalignment spacer is set at TCs recommended spec and CV still spins fine

Glass isn't any more necessary with a plus 2 kit than with a well sorted out mid travel setup. The only glass I'd consider with a plus 2 kit is the McNeil plus 2 glass but that works well with a mid travel setup as well

meh...they sell spare misalignment spacers and it looks cool when you scar em' up good JK ... it sucks when you bend the through bolt and can't get that bitch out...and that kids is the story of why you should always run straps.
