Just changed my rear Diff today with Valvoline 80-90+lsd. Lacked up one side to get more of the old out and got about 1/3 of a cup more out. I have to say that the drain plug had about 1/4" of thick grey goo on it. I am guessing it was all small metal shavings from the gears/plates. This was my first change and is at 95K miles.

Just finished mine w/ 75w90 Mobil 1 @ 30K miles. It was a pain in the friggin a$$ to get the fill plug open OMG (penetrating oil and a mallet). But after that it was a piece of cake. The oil was a disgusting gray/brown color and stunk like hell. I filled 3 qts. with out any overflow, so i got worried and checked the manual to verify -- 3 qts. it is. That oil flows SLOWWWW into the case.

Thanks everyone for the info and experiences you have posted here. This is a kick a$$ site!!!:D:D:D

O.k I just reached 30,680 miles and I'm going to put in RP in the Diff sometime before Saturday. I will be traveling to Laredo about a 3 hr. drive and will be giving my opinion on the change if any when I get back. I do use RP in the motor and have never had any problems. I change it out every 5,000 miles. Thanks for all the info brianr & chris4x4!! Oh I will be changing out the sparkplugs as well, thanks for the help on that in advance chris4x4!!:) My wife is begining to like this website.....it's saving her money!!:D

Its simmilar to the rear, just you use a 10mm hex socket, and use 1.6 quarts. You have to remove the skid plate.

OK - don't know if this has been asked, so I'll go first.

Bought 4 qt of 80-90 for the diff (Lucas) and 3 qt of 75-90 (mobile 1) for the tranny. Had a brain fart, and put the 75-90 in the diff. It took the 3 qts with no overflow. My questions:
    1. Is everyone doing OK with the 75-90, even in cold conditions?
    2. If there is no overflow, do I need more? Or if I get the 3 qts in am I good?
    3. Anyone need 4 qts of Lucas oil? :)

I have the 4cyl Prerunner manual.

It wont hurt anything, and the manual calls for 3 quarts even.

just change my front diff, rear diff, and tc. mileage is 28,800
rear diff took 3 quarts + 7 oz of additive
front diff took between 1.5-1.6 quarts
    tc took 1.1-1.3 quarts

    rear diff oil was super-dirty
front diff oil was well used, but not too bad and alot of crap on the magnet
tc oil was nearly brand new

also, i may or may not have over-torqued the shit out of the TC bolts

also, the front diff is a bitch and a half to get to

FWIW, the manual calls for 4 oz. of addative. You should be fine with the 7 though.
