Oil Pressure Sending Unit?

    So I mistakenly busted the wire on what I believe is the oil pressure sending unit while changing my oil filter. I also noticed my tach, speedo, temp, and gas gauges aren't working.

    Is this due to the busted wire or did I break something else and not realize it? How do I fix the sending unit? Can the wire be spliced onto a new unit?

    Also, the guy at the dealer gave me a yzzd3 filter instead of a yzzd1. I didn't realize until it was too late so I put the 3 on. Should I switch it back to a yzzd1 ASAP?

    That shouldn't effect the other gauges. Check you gauge fuse

    if the wire is broken right at the plug and not enough length to crimp or solder back together might be best to just replace the connector entirely

    maybe theres a speciality tool to remove the wire from the plastic connector but not sure on that and would probably cost as much as the new part anyways

    My gauges work now that I replaced the blown fuse. My check engine light is on. Love when that happens. :annoyed:
    I picked up the correct oil filter and will put it on tomorrow morning.
    Now it's time to find an oil pressure sending unit. Is that the right name for it? Should I buy Toyota or aftermarket?

    Right, If it's just the electrical connector that can unplug from the unit where the wires broke you may need to buy a replacement connector and cut and splice in the wires from Toyota or may have luck if you cut your broken one off and bring in to a parts store to match up a replacement... Or cut one off a junkyard motor. Shouldn't need to replace the whole unit if just the detachable electrical connector broke

    If the oil pressure sending unit is the same part number then yes.

    Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
    You can safely run the YZZD3 over the D1, it's just a little bit longer. I run it on my 3.4 because I like the extra filtering media and I can safely dump a full 6 quarts in and it's right on the full line because I hate having half quart bottles of oil laying around from the typical 5.5 quarts they take with a regular sized filter.

    As mentioned, running an oversize (length) filter can't hurt (as long as the rest of the dimensions are the same) . I've been running an oversize (EAO34) for several years; more filter material and more oil capacity is a win-win.

    Speaking of oil pressure switch, I'd love it if it actually gave you a pressure gauge instead of an idiot light...

    You can always put a aftermarket mechanical gauge. The ideal set up is both light and gauge. Light gets your attention gauge tells you whats going on.

    I thought my CEL light was on due to the broken wire on the oil pressure sending unit yet when I switched back to the proper sized filter it went off. Maybe it had something to do with the gauge fuse I replaced. I don't know.
