You may have a 5 lug base. A 4cyl w/ a 5spd manual is not any sort of TRD unfortunately. How many lugs does it have?

EDIT: Ignore me, just noticed it was a 4x4 and obviously not a 5 lug then.

    Hey, we can be buds!

I'm not miserable. But I have been occasionally called a curmudgeon. But most of those kids barely know what the word means, and certainly don't know about Andy Rooney, the best thing 60 minutes ever had...........

Yea, but I bet they got it with the stickers already on it. My guess is a lot slapped them on, it still didn't sell, so off to the wholesaler. Or that's the story you'll get.

Pull off the stupid stickers and enjoy your very cool ride!

BTW, the intermittent wiper is an easy 15 min. PnP install if you ever decide to go out in the rain :D

I don't know if I am going to go there. They are a combination mechanic and used car lot. They mostly work on and sell American made diesels. When I had the diesel VW TDI I used to take it there for inspections, oil changes and the installation of aftermarket parts. I'm going to pop in this afternoon and talk to them about this. I will keep you all informed. I appreciate everyone's help and words of encouragement!

Did they promote it as a trd? Or just had the sticker? I can tell you right now you did not pay trd off-road price.

I agree, price was fair. Depending on how the sale was promoted, deal may not have been fair.

Here is where it gets interesting. The bill of sale has it listed as a 6 cylinder! Now, when I bought it I thought it had a 4 cylinder and it does. Anyway, I went to the shop and talked to the guy. He said he didn't put those stickers on there. Which I believe. I was bringing it to his attention because he needed to know if his supplier was messing around. He looked on line and said something about the value of the truck now is even more than what I paid for it and that I got a good deal. To which I agreed I probably would have bought the truck anyway but it's not about the money. It's about the duplicity. At the time I did ask about it having a locking differential and he said he wasn't really a Toyota guy so he wasn't sure.

To be honest, I had always seen those TRD stickers on the Tacoma and never noticed some said SPORT and others OFF ROAD. That being said, and after having done the research, whoever put the stickers on had an idea of what they were doing. If it said TRD SPORT, a semi-informed person could tell it wasn't a SPORT right away by the hood and the wheel size. It reminds me of the Olds Cutlass 442, there were alot of phony 442's out there back in the 70's. I remember someone trying to sell my older brother an Olds 442, that really wasn't. They just stuck the badge on there.

Do I really need the TRD OFF ROAD? No, probably not. I haven't taken this off road since I bought it. Although we do get a lot of snow here so the 4X4 is nice to have. Everyone here probably knows it's the tires that make the difference in the snow. A front wheel drive car with good snow tires can go just about anywhere I need to go. What it boils down to is, I was looking for something that reminded me of the 1978 FJ-40 (which I frequently took off-road) I had in my youth. This fits the bill pretty good even if it doesn't have a manual choke!

Thanks to everyone for your support and insight!

I would still be sort of livid at the missing 2 cylinders... even a non Toyota guy can look under the hood and tell the difference.

I don't know your relationship with this place but id at least ask for 1k back per missing cylinder.

Yea, I knew it was a 4 cylinder when I bought. I saw the engine and can tell the difference! I have no idea why the paperwork says six cylinder and why I didn't notice it before.

I had to Google it when I first read it. :anonymous:

@Edinboron You paid a very fair price for your truck, seeing as it's very low on miles. I'd just continue to enjoy it, and leave it at that. It doesn't seem like any malicious activity went on here, because if the dealer was savvy enough to put the stickers on, they'd be savvy enough to charge you a bunch more. Some people in here might say you should be pissed and demand this and that, but don't even bother. Congrats!

Just drive the truck, you got a good deal on it as far as what you got in the truck, but I would for sure check the vin number on your truck against the vin number on the paperwork for your truck, maybe they sold you a different truck than what you paid for. Also I would never buy from them again as I think they screwed you over as far as what they advertised and what you bought.Since you had no problem with the truck being a 4 cylinder you cant really hold that against the seller now.

Some people just think they are entitled to 'remedy' for everything. Even when nothing happened but a decal.
