So.... The truck rides pretty decent when i don't have extra weight in the bed.

But when stuff is in there (most of the time), i get a highway shimmy up front. Steering wheel shake.

Weight is maybe 200-250 pounds (of the dankest weed) in the bed.

Weight is in there when it's aligned.

When i put the add a leaf on it didn't change anything. Would messing with the tire pressures change it? Or should i get a turd gen so a steering wheel shimmy is the least of my worries?

This shimmy has happened since it was brand new... Toyota told me "it's just how it is since it's a truck". It went away mostly when i installed the OME lift. But came back pretty quickly.

I'm going to be flying into the Denver area next month. Looking for some cool hikes to check out. Something we can do in about 2 hours or so. Colorado springs isn't too far away either so that area is an option. Thanks!

The drive from DIA to my house at the foot of Pike's Peak in colorado springs is an hour and 15 minutes and traffic looks good today...not sure if I would consider that close...if you do, I know a couple of hikes near me

That's not too far for me. Pikes peak was one of the places I wanted to visit. I fly into Denver early afternoon Saturday and leave Monday evening. Sunday morning would be when we would likely make the drive to pikes peak. Thanks!

No, never had any drive vibrations, other than maybe these?

But it sure seems like a front end issue with the steering wheel massage that it gives. I chalked it up as Toyotas new quality and just suck it up when it's riding down the highway like a POS.

Completely stock, lift, new tires, tons of alignments/balances/rotations. It's always done it.

It's also the reason why i won't be buying another new Toyota again.

Pull the tires and check the hubs? Maybe you bent one? Someone told to check them when my rotors were causing vibes up front

That or if the surface area was not clean

    Are you running wheel spacers?
    How about hub centric wheels?

It's been doing it since it had 6 miles on it from the Toyota lot. Brand new, all stock. Stock wheels, no spacers.

Shop manager from Stevenson rode along with me after i dropped it off more than once for it and told me "that's just how it drives, it's a truck and they all do it" steering wheel should feel like it's falling off and there should be a shimmy at highway speeds...

I've lived with it this long, just posted up since i recently noticed that it rides better when there's a little less weight in the bed, so it has to be something to do with that. Topper and a good amount of weight have been in it since new.

You have something bent or loose up front. An alignment may not necessarily show what the problem is, mine was aligned twice with a fucked upper ball joint and the tech never noticed it.
In the first 6 miles of your trucks life, some high school flunky nailed a curb. There should be no wheel shimmy.
Could be those Duracraps too. And the Dunflops before that.

Shit, I bought a used car back in high school from a dealer, that had a steering wheel shimmy. Turned out that somebody had hit a curb with it and it had a bent wheel. I noticed it only because it was the driver side and I could see it wobble going down the road. New wheel fixed it right up. Get that GoPro out.

Possibly, but i think all of the miles came from it being unloaded from the truck and then delivered to me at the broker.

Suspension and stuff has been checked and tightened over and over.

It doesn't change when wheels are rotated. But yes it could be suspension related.

And yes the truck is used like it should be IMO... Not a polished mall crawler. But the issues have been here since new, not a recent problem.

The first s2000 I test drove had a little skeleton in the closet like that. It had new curb damage underneath either from a test drive or when it was being moved.

OK. Would I be better served adding a CB to the tacoma or should I go for the basic Ham license?

    .
Well, you could join the growing list of HAM operators who don't communicate to each other because nobody knows what channel they are on.
Or you could get a CB, much cheaper, no test, ands you can talk to lots of others who have decided to go with the most reliable form of communication.
Besides, a long whip CB antenna adds mucho expo points.

    or both.

Then you can have the ability to talk to everyone, but will likely be able to communicate with no one.

I get CB reception everywhere I go, there is always a channel with somebody on it plus Channel 19 and 9 are always in use. Never a problem breaking in and asking for assistance if needed.
HAM is pretty quiet out in the woods. If everybody had one, it would be worth it. I suppose get both, and maybe in the next couple decades HAM will be almost as popular.
