always in 4th

so i have a 2016 limited automatic. Every time i put it into manual, its always it 4th. Weather Im going 40 down the road, or 120 on the highway it shows its in 4th. Anyone else notice this? any suggestions?

 

That is standard. It's your highest non overdrive gear. It'll always show up in 4th.

 

That's what it defaults to. You can upshift and downshift. Please read the manual.

It has 6 speeds. Go up two gears to get to the 6th

 

the number you see is the highest gear it'll shift into. Not the gear it's in. It's not a true paddle shift system. So once you put into shift mode it'll use gears 1-4 unless you upshift or down shift.

It's all in the manual too.

 

yes. put er in "S" mode and push forward and then forward again. it'll show 6. but thats the max gear it will ever upshift to. for example, in 5 the max gear it will upshift to will be 5th.

 

it doesnt hold the gear like a traditional DSC transmission like you'd see in a vehicle with paddle shifters. just because it says 4, doesnt mean it's in 4th. it only means that's the max gear it will hold (up until red line). just like @nDub said.

 

Maybe the Canadian version shifts differently. Not sure what the exchange rate on RPM's is.

 

is it not the gear its in when it says s4? that doesnt make sense

 

You got it. It's the highest gear it'll use.
So if your in sixth it'll downshift
If your in second it'll stay in second and only upshift as far as 4th.

I didn't design it so as far as making sense you got me :shrug:

 

¨Manual Mode¨ as its commonly called, is a gear limiter. When you put into S mode you select which gear you want it to go up to and not past. It does state in the manual that default is S4.
The display shows which S gear you have selected, not what gear the transmission is actually in.

You can´t

 

You can only see the highest gear it will go into with S mode, not the gear it's in.

Pushing the shifter forward ( +) will raise the limit to 5 or 6 but raising the limit will not cause it to shift right then, only if you accellerate then it will upshift to a higher gear if needed.

If you were going that fast, you would not be in 6th gear anyways.

Not sure why you would have to go that fast ever.

EDIT: Not sure if you are talking about mph or not.

 

I have to things I am not clear on. #1 Can I switch turn on S mode and ECT power at any speed? #2 If I am in S mode going downhill I can switch the transmission from 4th to 5th but it will downshift to a lower gear when going up a steep hill and stay in 4th or lower. Am I right?

 

#1 answer is yes
#2 it is still the same automatic trans. with the same program, you can just limit what gear it will top out at.
