Why include Pro in the title? Who would buy a Pro to drive it 100% on the street?

Because Pros use the same tires as the OR and so their experiences using a highway tire in place of this OR tire is relevant to my question.

There's really no need to make this into some philosophical debate. The stock tires aren't great for any real off roading, nor are the great for on road. So, either buy an Off Road tire or very capable A/T tire for off road use, and have that on road manners suffer, or the inverse..or buy a set of each.

I'm interested in the Highway option. I'll have feedback to contribute next week for anyone else interested.

They do, the point was more that while in 4Low is when you have traction control and MTS, which I assume if you're one that spends time in 4Low often then those features would be useful. for me, I've only been in 4Low a handful of times and never needed anything more.

Sure is. Why would anyone spend the extra bucks on a Pro to drive it on the street. For that matter why a 4x4 unless you live where it snows.

People buy things because they like them, either because of subjective looks and/or functionality. Both are equally legitimate as a reason for buying anything.

Yep people are free to waste their money any way they want but 4x4 systems need to be used or they become non-functional.

TIL: 4WD cant be turned on in a straight line on the hundreds of thousands of miles of highway in the states if you never go offroading.

Yes I already have. People buy things because they may like it regardless if they need it/use it or not. Pros look different than other models. Do I need to explain it further and dumb it down more?

There are very few places where it doesn't snow.

There's also the availability factor. If you wouldn't use a 4x4 but the configuration you want is available in 4x4 but not 4x2, are you going to wait it out for the exact option in the bare minimum you need?

These philosophical questions really are pointless. You buy what you will take full advantage of if that's how you have to justify your purchase. Others will justify their purchases in their own way.

If you're really concerned about addressing philosophical questions...why are you posting in a third gen section, in a third gen specific thread, for third gen models you don't own and can't contribute feedback towards?

You only need to be stuck in the middle of nowhere once to realize you do need it. Then it's too late.

This thread could be in any section. It is about tires and not specific to Gen. Maybe I should never post here since I told my dealer I would not touch a Gen3 Tacoma with a 10' pole.

Get the Michelin ms2/defenders. Had them on my 2nd gen and work great here on the east coast where you can get all kinds of weather in just one week. 3-4 years in it, itwould last the 70k mileage as advertised. IN 4-5in Snow it worked well for me and it was 2WD. I know there is members with these tires that praise them and bring them to all kinds of terrain and weather condition. I went to wildpeak at3 just for something new, but I would go back to michelins in a heart beat if I had to choose a highway specific tire.

    I was running 265/70/16, SL

As the OP, please feel free to re-read what I was asking for and understanding it WAS specific to a comparison with the tires we currently have. Good day.
