Nothing today my sales manager said the parts are on order still no eta and that they were tearing down the old engine....They are still trying to insult me by charging msrp to get in a diff truck when their own website offers the truck below msrp which I would never pay. I emailed my salesman and the gm to let them know how insulting that feels as a customer....:ohsnap: sadly im sure that will fall on deaf ears.

...^^^... Let them run out the lemon law clock ... sounds like that is VERY possible ... especially if any "post fix" has any problems.

    Keep GOOD records ...

I kinda agree with OP also. There's no one at that dealership that has totally removed/replaced a gen3 engine, I'm betting. That thing will have ground issues, mount misalignments, and god knows what else. I'd document and press hard for a "whole" truck. Not one with a couple bolts left over after a "fix"

Even if they do that it will be an MSRP to MSRP trade. Don't sweat it. It will all work out. You have options, especially since you are going to blast the 30 days right out of the water.

I could be wrong but, it sounds as if he will be getting a re-built engine and not an actual all new engine. @Elvis765 ??

@Elvis765, does the 765 happen to be your area code? If so, which dealership to you buy from?

I wouldn't think it would be rebuilt. It wouldn't be for me. Heck no....

I think they pretty much do that as standard procedure in using refurbished components anywhere possible.

They shouldn't in a two week old vehicle. I have thought he should wait for them to fix it under warranty all along and extend the warranty but a rebuilt anything in a two week old truck doesn't sound right. Im not sure what to think about that other than this sucks man...

His old Shortblock will be shipped off to be rebuilt and then put into rotation for the next failed engine under warranty, could not agree more on it not being right though.

It may be 2 weeks old but, it did have a whopping 381 miles...

I've made my feelings about what I think Toyota (or any company that respects it customers) should do but, I'm betting it won't happen unless he can slide it under the lemon law at sometime in the future.

At this point he is all but gifted a LL claim but I thought he would be better off with a new (meaning new, not rebuilt) engine and then extend the warranty. Geez...this bites if this is the case.

Fact, I think OP said his state requires 30 days down or "X" number of shop visits for same problem. I'm guessing the 30 days might be the lucky number for him.

Ya man, I'd be beside myself if I bought new and ended up having a rebuilt motor at 2 weeks and 381 miles. I understand the legal side...doesn't make it right and sure as shit doesn't make OP "entitled" in my book to want a new unit.

No it won't. They don't rebuild engines for resale. The only way that thing comes back is if it gets shredded, melted and recast as a new one.

They will replace the short block with a short block directly from current production. You may get an entire engine if the head is damaged beyond repair. I would ask for pictures of the combustion chambers to make sure there is no damage.

He will likely go beyond the 30 days but I still think Toyota won't screw him. I would think it would be a new engine. I would hope. If it is he is still better off with the new engine and better warranty. It still sucks either way.

And we have our answer. I hope this is true. If so, he should let them replace it and give him a great extended warranty and move on. I would do this even though the inconvenience sucks. I would likely ask them to pick up a payment for me too since he is going around a month without it by the time this all gets. Done, maybe longer. I still think Toyota will take care of him.
