Bought Toyota Certified used 2015 Tacoma Sport Dbl Cab Dec. 28, 2016 with 14,000 miles. Now have 17,000 miles and really don't like the "constant downshifting" usually when on slight to moderate down grade driving. Dealer just told me that Toyota has just given them the re-programming code on transmission, but several customers are not pleased with the code change. Dealer said once they change it, they can not change it back. So I decided to leave as is for warranty reasons. I purchased the 100,000 mile extended warranty at time of purchase. Any helpful thoughts on this issue, other than the "shifting", I love the new little truck. Thanks

Fuel to the engine cuts off if you try to coast. It's a type of engine braking. The tranny will down shift too. Keep your foot on the skinny pedal if you don't want to slow down.

Or just shift to 4 and back to D. As annoying as that is, it works!

I have not noticed this with my '09, but then again there are damned few "down grade" driving opportunities here...

have you parked near a 3rd gen? I had to double check to make sure this wasn't a 3rd gen truck/post.

I've had 2 2nd gen tacomas and both downshift the exact same way. There's actually hills around me that both trucks downshifted on and other hills that neither downshift on.

the shift to 4 and immediately back to D will always work

never have had an issue with my 08, my 07 used to do the weird shit, if you sit in one gear and RPMs would go up. D-4 to D again usually fixed it.

The downshifting down a hill is intentional to help with downhill braking. Its not an 'issue', but it can be annoying.

It's not just Tacomas that downshift going down hill.

My wife has a 2014 Rav 4 and it does the same thing. I've never found it annoying.

I just traded my 09 AC end of last year. Miss that truck, but happy with my 17.

I drive a stick daily so when we bought the Taco I thought it down shifted a little rough, and seemingly too soon when going downhill or braking. I've since gotten used to it, but it seems to be normal.

Thanks Moondeath for the info, I can live with the shifting, just wanted to be sure I wasn't the only one with this issue. I do see the advantage of saving the brakes! Have family in Somerset , Pa & Levittown, Pa. Sure is warm in Georgia tho...as we say down heeyah "preeshadd-it!
