Anything welding

Working on the tig big time. Ready to get out of this structural welding and get into pipe welding. More money and demand.

 

^^ agree with ya. I like tig better. do you use acetone when prepping the surface?

 

No sir. This is out in power plants on industrial stuff. Just basic grinding, buffing and sometimes wire wheeling.

 

do you flow argon on the back side of the weld (inside the Pipe)?

 

If it's an X-ray weld or certain material then yes. This was just a pipe to reroute coal so it wasn't critical

Pipes that carry gas or liquid most often will get back purged to not cause turbulence in the pipe which can do strange things at times

Depending on the application .

 

Mainly just to prevent getting sugar on the root.

 

My friend At Air Gas Lebanon Pa just sold 4 pallets (13,000 pounds) of Electrodes to the pipe line job

Putting on 20 Rig Welders .

Idiot checking in. Got home today, played with the hounds, got a shower, put on chacos and had to reverse polarity and weld! Very happy for two reasons; first, I was able to weld in sandals shorts and short sleeves and I didn't come away a mangled mess, second; welds look awesome, still need to mess with wire speed to get everything right but I'm very pleased.

I appreciate the help troubleshooting this, even though I'm an idiot and skipped a step that was even outlined on the idiot sheet inside the cover. I'm sure that I will be back with pictures in the future looking for help to make me a better welder.

I made the same mistake, only it took a month to figure it out.

 

In addition, I too love to weld in sandles.

You won't do it very long using flux core...or you will build up your pain threshold

 

Your not alone in forgetting to change polarity !! At least it did not cost you a hour of my labor ($120.00) to find out.

To each their own but I don`t weld in anything but all leather boots my one time wearing boots with Nylon uppers ruined them about less then a week old.

Then I don`t own Shorts or sandals so that might not happen

 

I seem to be replying to old posts lately, but... If viability is what you're after no auto darkening helmet will give you anything close to what a passive gold lenses will give you.

 

can anyone recommend a good cutoff wheel for cutting metal? I have one but unsure of what brand it is. It just seems to take longer than I expect to cut pieces of metal. I may try a jigsaw with a metal blade and see how that works. Maybe I dont have enough cfm? I have this air compressor...
