I would be surprised if they give him brand new, fully expecting refurbished. Yanking stuff off the production line also throws off the Just In Time Process.

No it's not that you could be wrong. You ARE wrong. He will not get any used or rebuilt engine parts from Toyota. If he gets a short or long block, (all components will be brand new) you could argue that he ends up with a rebuilt engine though.

What gave you the idea that Toyota would send anything other than new parts?

When Components fail on our vehicles they are rarely disposed of, if it is a rare failure then it goes to engineering otherwise its going back to be Remanufactured.

Maybe he will get the motor from the truck that hit that ditch and flew 30 feet into the air!

I can't argue that. But to confrirm you have seen a used engine go into a new vehicle, and that vehicle being "delivered/sold" as new?

    You're funny...

So once the repair is accomplished will his motor his rebuilt?

Or are you saying Toyota will provide a complete NEW already "built" motor that's plug & play?

Oh ya so in the state I worked the rule for selling a damaged new vehicle as new was all about the % of whole sale. If it was above the magic % the dealer just got more than one invoice.

Toyota might replace the entire motor and then send it to the tier 1 supplier for a warranty investigation since it's a part failure under normal usages. They will use this for warranty charge back negotiations. I get entire HVACs back just for a regulator failure when low mileage.

I was (incorrectly) saying that whatever parts toyota send will be new. So lets say long block, that would be a new long block, then once installed you could say it was rebuilt, since its his old heads with new long block. But Toyota wouldn't send a longblock made up of used parts. But seems that's inaccurate, so can be ignored.

Its no longer a "New" Vehicle and Toyota considers a Remanufactured Part as an Equal to new and will Warranty it that way.

These motors are a new design in Toyotas eyes. New assembly process on new assembly lines with new countermeasures with new process improvements. Might be the same design motor but the manufacturing is constantly changing. 90% of all power window motors (example) are the same design/part # but manufactured at 20 locations around the world. Always constant improvement through warranty investigations. But who knows. Good luck with the motor

Give the dealership manager every opportunity to help you or ignore you. Then go to the Toyota regional supervisor.

I know this is not on the same level as an Engine but when my 2015 Tacoma was delivered to the Dealer it had 2 Damaged Wheels, I ended up with 2 Refurbished Wheels on a Brand New Truck before I ever took delivery.
