Still quite a bit of money for a gamble. I've owned salvage title cars in the past with no issue.

Shame brands don't sell low tech models of their cars. I don't need a Tacoma with a GPS or a phone app or hell even power windows.

My 07 went for 20k with 88,000 miles on it. Just sr5, with tow package. 13k sounda a bit high for a salvage title.

Some things to check for in salvage title vehicles: flood damage, frame damage, and electrical damage from the flood damage.

This, and really try to figure out what happened. I bought my 05 DCLB Sport with a rebuilt title, so a little different. Really look it over good.

Salvage title in CA = hasnt been registered since "accident"

SalvagED title in CA = inspected (they inspect things like lights/ horn etc... not structural damage/ and it has been registered since "accident"

When a salvaged title is registered in Nevada it is then a "rebuilt title" instead of salvaged, two different words same meaning, Im assuming other states may have their own terminology.

I've owned a perfectly good low milage salvage Tacoma. I will never buy one again. While ownership and buying price can be great, selling is a complete nightmare. And while even if buying with the intention of keeping a long time, you never know when life circumstances will change and having a major asset that is not liquidable because of a title is a major PITA.

This,If you buy it ,plan on keeping it,because most folks wont even bother buying anything that says salvage on it.Also make sure your insurance company will insure it,State Farm wont!
$13,000 is too much for a salvage truck.

I live in Nevada also, and a rebuilt title does not fool anyone as few people will buy one due too most insurance companies refusing too insure them,I have State Farm and they will not touch any rebuilt or salvage title vehicles which make the truck worthless money wise.

Huh thats interesting, I have always been a progressive customer and have owned rebuilt cars trucks and motorcycles and they have insured all of them all without question.

I agree regarding the resale value, it will undoubtedly take longer to find a buyer, but there are people out there (like me) who IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT will not mind a salvaged car or motorcycle. That being said the average person probably doesn't know where to look for damage etc... sometimes its simply not worth it if there is frame damage or other severe damage, and I would probably stay away from flood damage as well.

My dad bought a 2000 tacoma trd off road in 2001 and he saved alot of money and it now has 120k and all he has done is regular maintenance. I have also owned a couple salvage vehicles. Some worked out great but 1 i had was a constant headache.

Heres the deal. You need to know very spacificly why it is salvage. I would always ask for pics if it was in an accedent because they will ALWAYS tell you it was minor cosmetic damage...... if it had frame damage run away, always check for weird tire wearing patterns and for vibrations or shakes. You have to know you will be taking a risk and the price needs to reflect that. As other people have noted, it will suck when it comes time to sell it. The truck could run, drive, and look new but as soon as someone sees the salvage status, people will without a doubt not be intrested or try to lowball to no end. You can sell them but it will take a while and it will be for dramatically less than you will think it should. If you can get it for cheap enough and after a very thorough inspection it could still be a good way to go. You just have to do alot of due diligence before you fork over the money. If the people that are selling it are shady, run. If anything feels out if place or suspicious run.
