It's because my 33s are differently shaped... they're tall and skinny instead of short and fat. My tires clear better than others would. I couldn't get away with this with most 33s. I rub a little on my front mud flaps and a little on my UCAs. I trimmed a little bit of my fender well and I'll remove the mudflaps this weekend. UCAs will either have to be replaced entirely or I'll get spacers. I haven't decided yet.

But in conclusion, I definitely could not go bigger with stock suspension. I'd done enough research beforehand to know I should be fine with these tires and stock, so I took the chance and went for it. The PNW guys were fascinated... couple of them called me ballsy. Except I'm not the first one to do it and I really see no issue with this particular tire size...

It's the height basically. My tires are barely any wider than the stock tires, but are taller. Because of this, they clear most everything without an issue.

If I had 33s that were wider than stock, I'd have an issue. It wouldn't clear the wheel well anymore and I'd have to trim.

I think the fact that 33 is a vague term is what's throwing you off. 33s come in different shapes and sizes... it really comes down to the width that makes me or breaks me in this case.

I could never understand tires for some reason. I used to work at a dirt bike shop back in the day and i had no problem finding gaskets and oil, but for some reason as soon as tire numbers were dropped i was like a cat in a dog house. Totally fucked.

It's because they're measured weird and in multiple ways... I spent many a night getting schooled on this very subject, I assure you.

I need like special education. So since your tires are 155 but ours are 165, the smaller the number the bigger the tire? I dont understand how that adds up. Like a par at the golf course?

Not at all. So mine are 255mm wide. Then the 85 means that they are 85% of 255 tall (roughly 216mm tall).

What were your tires? I'll do the math.

So ours are 265/70/17 what does that mean? Jaymacs are 255/65/16 but theyre bigger than ours. How does that make sense? Im so sorry about my mental handicap but i would think bigger numbers = bigger tires.

    But its not.

Okay so my math is above.

Yours are 265mm wide. And then 70% of 265 tall, which is roughly 185mm tall. So you're wider but shorter than I am.

The percentage thing is dumb as fuck. Don't know why it can't just be the actual size.

But did the math help at all??
