all three great bikes. I had a heckler, and with the proper shock on the back , that bike rips. its single pivot suspension model is by far the oldest ideology used. it is the least amount of maintenance but will have pedal bob. I would think the yeti or stumpy will climb better over the heckler due to their suspension designs, yeti will be the most mantenance with its rear suspension build and pivots.

one thing i would consider is wheel size. 27.5 on the heckler and the 26" on the others. you will have a much easier time finding tires, wheels and parts for the heckler.

anyways, just my two cents. since they are all used bikes... I would make an effort to see which of them are in the best shape. I see the Heckler is in brevard, which means it was probably ridden in pisgah. with that gnar rocky terrian, that bike has seens its days if it was ridden properly..

Thanks for the input man..and yea im definitely planning to do all the maintenance myself so that is something that im taking into consideration. now excessive maintenance doesnt scare me as i need something today besides surf tw at night anyways  But still something i want to consider. I know ill more then likely be stoked with any of these 3 and im sure i won't be able to surpass their abilities for years. If ever.

Agreeing with the guy above me. Personally I have a thing for santa cruz bikes, but I would look at the yeti, then stumpjumper then the heckler. Condition and care is everything though, and I care not about maintenance since I work on my own bikes.

As a side note, for anybody that has rolling hills and single track like Michigan, I can not recommend a 27.5+ bike enough. I just recently changed from a 29er (still own) to a beast of the east, and I love the thing so much that I ordered and am building a santa cruz chameleon 27.5+ single speed.

Not a pic of my bike, but same frame and fork. Custom wheelset and parts are already in the works, its going to be sweet.

Agreed with the 27.5. Might be worth it to make the move now to the standard as to many retailers "26 is dead," as sad as it is to say. Got to love PB though!

Although as I mentioned a few posts back, I ride a 29-er, I would say that 26 is not dead, as far as availability of wheelset parts and tires, and in fact you may really score a good deal on one because everyone is going to the new thing , whether that's 27.5+, 29+, boost etc etc. BTW it's great to see all the Santa Cruz love here, I ride a TallboyC and live about a mile from their headquarters and factory.

this probably isn't enough travel for what you are looking for, but my girlfriend is selling her full suspension.

    its a medium Giant Stance - https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/stance-27dot5-2-2015

    asking $1200

this thing has less than 100 miles on it. she bought it and a few months later starting Nurse Practitioner school and hasn't had any time to ride.

I can send you some actual pics if interested.

anyone here rode or have a 2017 trek stache 5? I want a full suspension but can't afford right now due to out of town trips. My budget is $1500 and this stache 5 is right on the money. Some advice will help me a lot. thanks

There is probably a better place to ask this, but what should my first mountain bike be? Looking at about a 3k budget.

Look at value... not flash. I would recommend something like a Giant trance 2 - $2700. It's got everything you'd want in an all around bike, with decent components. Or the Trek remedy. Those two companies have so much technology at a crazy affordable price. They just have a huge R and D that other smaller companies can't compete with.

With that budget- I would get a high end aluminum build with shimano SLX or XT components or the equivalent SRAM GX.

First decide what kind of riding you're going to do (trail, cross country, downhill, enduro) determine full suspension or hardtail, how much travel you want, and what wheel size.

I'd be more than happy to talk more about it if you want.

Have you been able to ride any of the bikes you have been interested in? You should def check out this bike and ride it just to get a feel of what a 2010 feels like. After that, I would hold off from the purchase and go to your local bike shop and ride something that is comparable component wise to that heckler. You might find that even with the savings, that the 2010 might be a little too vintage for your tastes.

To me, the 2008-2011 era seemed to be relatively the same in the older geometry. As you approach the 2014 and up years many bikes have adopted to what they currently are with the exception of the 27.5 wheels as those have been slowly been introduced into all the companies in the past few years.

Seems a bit high for me, I wouldn't pay more than 1,000 for that. Again, 26" wheels, a very low level componentry, and it's 7 years old. For $1200 you can get a better bike... that's my two cents. Keep searching! The right bike will show up.
