I am not a fan of posting threads like these, but I am just about ready to pull the trigger and wanted to get some input on the truck. I am going to take a look at this truck tomorrow, and wanted to know what you guys thought would be a fair price? Based on what I am seeing in the for sale section it seems to be in the right ball park. It is a 1 owner and seems to have some good options (leather, OR, etc).

Would something under 21k be a good deal for this? Supposedly it has no frame rust, but I will be taking a look at that. Thanks again for the input!

Just found this truck as well. Little worried about rust on this, as its 2nd owner lived in Hawaii.

Also, I'd be interested in anything else I might want to look for on a 2008. I've done a bit of research, but open to suggestions. Thanks!

I know PNW prices are high on Tacomas, but that seems too high. For reference I just bought a 2006 DCSB TRD OR 100kmiles 1 owner with a new frame and all service records for 15k.

I also understand wanting a specific truck.

Set your price ceiling and don't go above that. If you get what you want in your budget you win.

Seems a little high. Those inflated trd priced. Wife just got a 2012 DCSB sr5 loaded for $18500. But no trd knocks quite a bit off.

Thanks for the input guys! I got them down to $20,000 on this truck. Looks like I'll need to shoot for lower, or keep looking.

It depends on whether the frame is actually clean or not. Make sure you get it up on a lift and take a good look at it. Also take into consideration as to whether the TRD is a must for you or not, like stated before.

TRD OR really shouldn't be a requirement, although I like the thought of it. I wouldn't mind getting into mild off roading as a hobby.

While this truck is within my budget, I want to make sure I get a good deal on whatever vehicle I buy. I'm not in a hurry, so I can always wait for a better deal.

Well I'm searching for a Tacoma as well and I've driven the base model and the TRD and personally, I like the TRD better mainly because of the seats and the locking diff. Not that I need the locking diff, but it would be nice to have. My gf's brother said to me a few days ago, "If its not perfect for you, then its not for you. It's a lot of money for something thats not perfect in your own eyes"

It took me a year to find the truck I wanted. I live in the Northeast so my criteria were: rust free (within reason), 2003-2008, DBCS TRD OF, then 1 owner with records, ~100K miles, $15K or less, within 250 miles of my house, new frame, excellent condition, and completely stock.

I called and emailed about 50 trucks over the course of the past year, turned down a truck after taking it to my mechanic, and probably annoyed so many dealers by asking them for pictures of the frame and undercarriage.

The day I found my truck I actually found two identical trucks (same configuration, 1 owner, same miles) at two close by dealerships 250 miles from my house. I pitted them against each other until I got one to budge on a price. I was never going to buy one of them as its frame only had the CRC coating while the other had a new frame, but I got the price I wanted and now have a truck.

Patience and persistence is key. Searching for your perfect truck can almost be a part time job.

Good luck, you'll find one, maybe today!

    I am the same.

I did just find this truck. It's second owner lived in Hawaii though, which screams rust to me. Good price in comparison though!

Thanks for the info! Its always tempting to pull the trigger early, but I am being patient. I had a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 last year and sold it. Wish I never did. I'll be holding onto this one for a while.

Ive been looking for like 3 months and my criteria are similar to yours, except the years being 2005-2012. I feel like such a nuisance asking for pictures of the frame, and some dealers stop answering me because there is a problem that I would find. and they know that I know too much.

Just my $.02 but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the second gens while the thirds are just meh to me. And from what I hear the 3rd gens are already proving to be less reliable than the seconds...just what I hear not from experience.

The 2008 seems to be in much better condition than that 2011 IMO

The reason I went 2005-2008 is because it seems that anyone buying a Tacoma after December 2016 will not be qualified to receive a new frame even if the truck fails inspection. My price point put anything above 2008 out of the picture, so I knew I would have to get one that already had the frame replaced.

People speculate that Tacoma's will continue to have rust issues, I didn't want to chance it so I went with one that already had it done.

Yeah, but I can't believe how many there are without the frames replaced. It was free and these people never had it done. I guess thats why the are for sale

The reality is that most people don't know. You wouldn't believe how many trucks I checked out and my knowledge was better than the seller. Even dealers who claim to specialize in Tacomas.

Tacomaworld is a special place in that people here know about these trucks more than most toyota dealerships.

I was looking at a truck yesterday and I was talking about the class action lawsuit and they had no idea. I knew everything about the truck and the sales people were in shock.

December 2016 was the cut off? I was trying to look for that info. That is for the 05-10 recall right?
If true, the frame rust issue becomes an even bigger deal for me. Or ill have to look for a 2011+ I guess.
