I am about to buy a 2006 double cab TRD. The frame was inspected and sprayed by toyota in 2014. I know that its not actually stopping the rust and just hiding it.

Does anyone know if i would be eligible for the frame replacement? If so for how long? i do not want to buy this truck unless i know im covered.

    Thanks!

Not if it has been sprayed by Toyota. If they inspect it and undercoat it, the extended service campaign is complete and it is no longer eligible for a frame replacement.

Not so fast...there is a new frame replacement lawsuit going on about to be settled. Postcards have gone out to all 2005-2010 Tacoma owners. Read thread here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-frame-settlement-postcard.468756/

    Settlement website:

    http://www.toyotaframesettlement.com/

    Relevant paragraph:

I take this to mean IF you've had prior CRC applied and they inspect and find a 10mm or greater hole, you get a new frame. Regardless of what was done under prior recall/TSB. Somebody correct me if I misinterpret that.

My dad got the post card about the settlement, if you owned the vehicle prior to a date in December 2016 then you would be eligible if the new settlement is reached.

If you buy a 2005-2010 in 2017 you will have no course of action.

I lost the card from the class action they sent me I hope I didn't have to reply to it. My 2007 has never been inspected.Never got a recall about it from Toyota, but think I should wait to see what happens with the class action.

Realizing that there's no definitive answer to this question... About how long does a 2007 that has lived it's whole life in the constant snowy winters of Wisconsin have before it has to go to the junkyard or have the frame replaced at owner's expense? Could I get, say, 6-7 years out of the truck, or is it going to disintegrate like a goddamned Ford Pinto parked on Daytona Beach?

I just bought my 2006 with a new frame, but it lasted in MA near the Berkshires from 2006-2015 before the frame was replaced. The previous owner was an older gentleman who had the truck maintained at all regular service intervals at the local Toyota Dealership.

It seems that without any special care the original frames were holding out around 10 years.

Well, I'm hoping that the former owner mostly drove locally. In this part of Wisconsin, only the Interstates get a lot of salt. The towns and back roads and local highways all get sanded instead, as the soil in this part of the state is basically beach sand, so they can get sand very inexpensively by just digging a hole.

Former owner also lives in this area of WI.

Best of luck. No sense in not taking preventative measures. Cover that truck in fluid film.

Even though mine has a new frame I'm still getting under there with a wire brush, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, and Chassis Paint Exteme this summer, and Fluid Film this fall.

My goal is to get ten years out of this truck.

I don't have the link but there is an entire rust treatment consolidation thread. Search for that.

Also this is a really great write up on a fluid film application:

When did you buy the truck, do you have a rust issue?

Bought March 9, 2017...too late. If I don't have a rust problem yet, I will...

After doing a little more research, it looks like I'll also be doing my Sequoia (04, bought Feb 2, 2016)
