Anybody here add a 1/2" or 1" spacer to a Fox coilover? Looking to add an extra 1" of lift without cranking the coilovers any further. With this small spacer you'll need to swap studs on the coilover assembly. Can they easily be removed and swapped or are they permanently in there. These are Fox extended coilovers. Any help would be great...thanks.

You've invested in high quality suspension components like Fox; don't sully(ruin) them by modifying them specifically for the sake of putting Mall Crawler parts (spacers) on your ride.

if you have to crank the preload down that much you need a stiffer front spring. do it right and get the proper spring for the weight if your truck.

It's not cranked down any further than what's max recommended. It's only 1" further down from how it came. Imo fox needs to make these coilovers 2nd gen and 3rd gen specific. Swapping out the spring for something the shock is not made for is not an option. My ride and offroad capabilities really are perfect...at this point it's just an aesthetic thing.

is your truck stock? any armor on the front? skids? bumpers? winch? changing out springs is an option, a valid option. the shock is made for lots of things lol. it needs to be paired with your truck. your best bet is to corner weight the truck, send the specs to a real tuner and they will set it up properly.

By adding a spacer, you are making the compressed and extended length of the coilover that much longer and other components might start binding at full droop and bottoming out the shock at bump/compressed. The correct fix would be to swap to a higher rate spring.

it might be, but with a V6 and DC i would think 700 would be in line, but a call to king or a shock tuner might help. maybe a longer spring?

I have the same dilemma. Have the Fox 2.5 IFP which came with 2" of lift(already came with a lot of preload). They told me that they recommend only two additional full turns to achieve another 1/2" of lift. I previously had the 5100(set at 0)+OME 887 which gave me a near 3" lift on 285/70/17 Nitto Grapplers. They worked fine and did not rub on the mudflap/body mount.

Since I installed the Fox setup with their factory preload I lost some lift. Even when I cranked the coilovers two additional full turns on the collar my tires would still rub. So I cranked the coilovers to the same height as my previous setup at around 2.85-2.90" of lift. The preload is a shit ton. These coilovers come factory with 13" 600# coils. I'm running a 105# bumper and a 30# front skid. It drives fine, haven't heard or felt any coil bind yet but I think I will upgrade to 14" 650# coils in the near future.

Out of the box Fox preload. Gave me about 2" of lift.

Had to crank out an additional 12 threads on the driver and 10 on the passenger to get 3" of lift to match my previous 5100+887 lift. The blue marks where the factory preload was at.

Maximum is an upper limit, you should be somewhere in the middle and not pushing against the ceiling. I'd get coils, or live with it.

You are still rubbing after cranking 2 more turns because lift has nothing to do with your rubbing. You can crank it 10 turns and you will still rub

With the same weight spring and just longer, you would still need to preload it to the same amount. So if you had to crank the shorter coil down 1", you would need to crank the longer same weight spring down 1" also to get the same ride height.

When It was set at factory preload, 2" it rubbed during compression when I hit the trails. Cranked two additional turns and still rubbed when I hit the trails again. Cranked it 12/10, this time no rub under compression.

Probably because your spring is now preloaded too much and is acting like your bumpstops (not good). Spring can only be preloaded a certain amount before you reach "coil bind".

You are rubbing on the cab mount then going higher won't change anything. That is an issue with space behind the tire towards the back of the truck. You need to trim the cab mount

If you already have a 14" spring, you can't cram a longer spring than that in there. You will run into coil bind.

Oh sorry disregard then. I assumed you were rubbing on cab mounts.

Why is your fender flares rubbing? What kind of backspace is on your wheels?

Adjusting your ride height will not stop you from rubbing because your tire will still stuff into the fender the same amount no matter what height you are riding at. So as soon as your suspension flexes, on a driveway or on a trail, you will rub in the same spot you did before you adjusted your coilovers.
