Good luck with your project. Reg cabs are really good platforms, as they are smaller and lighter. Some guys make their wheelbase even smaller by bobbing the bed. I decided to keep my bed the way it is 'cause I like to have as much space as possible to haul stuff around.

Yep, same here. Our local off road park allows camping, so I want the bed to be regular size in case I want to throw my RTT on.

Not to nitpick, but bobbing the bed doesn't change the wheelbase, just the departure angle.

haha good catch. Dunno what I was thinking when I said that lol

Relocating the axles is what changes the wheel base.

    Thanks for the correction!

That is pretty much my truck you want to build, but a single cab. I love it. Check out my build thread and my one good youtube video of it lol.

    Mines a 95 3RZ, W59, base model.

I did blow up a T-Case when on a 3" lift, but that was due to operator error. :anonymous: Ran it dry, there was a slow leak I never caught.

A buddy of mine has a 95 that came with the 3.4 in a standard cab and 4wd. He has the TRD modeled supercharger too but he said that didn't come on the truck factory I believe.

yea you could get a 95 standard cab with the 3.4l im sure. The line is very blured on when its a 95vs96 haha He could have added the SC from the dealer only at that point. All SC were dealer installed, not factory.

    or user installed of course.

I bought my 1997 Tacoma reg cab 3.4 the end of the 1997 year and there was NO TRD supercharger available. The superchargers were on THIER way and the buzz about the availablity date was huge.
I was chopping at the bit for one and ordered one as soon as they came available and that was
in 1998 Dealer installed. So that's when they first were available for sale and could be added to the 1997 3.4 v6 engines, models forward. The ECU, 1997 forward were compatible with the TRD supercharger. I don't believe the
1995 and 1996 are. So if he has a supercharger on a 1995 he added the supercharger later
after 1998 and I believe would have had to swap out a 1997 ECU or newer for it to run correctly.
Little know fact that TRD had a recall on the very first production superchargers when made, mine was replaced with an updated version on a recall about a year later for free. Not sure what the deal was back then, They are the best bang for the buck when setup correctly and trouble free with a COMPLETE overhaul needed every 150,000 miles or so for 1000.00.

I am not sure I understand how that product is different, functionally, from having a crawl box from an older toyota in front of the chain driven case. Is it that they are now manufacturing the actual case from scratch for the crawler box so that people don't have to use the parts from an old truck?

Also, I think the V6 in a reg cab is not really that big of a deal. I think that using the 2.7 4cyl until it won't go anymore is ok. Not the fastest , nor at torque monsters, but it works. After that then it should be V8 all the way :D

Hello neighbor, Do yourself a favor and put in 2004 DESNO fuel injectors, they are larger volume, better spray pattern and I think more spray holes
and the truck will run much better, more power at high rpms
and replace the knock sensors and harness as its easy to do now, reseal the newer
engine if you can since it's out and easy to do, if your thinking of adding a supercharger later maybe put in a 1997 forward ECU that's compatible now instead of the 1996 ECU. Something to think about

I'll keep the injectors in mind. Thanks for that idea.

I called the Toyota dealer to price out oem knock sensors, and they wanted almost 600! I laughed, And ended up doing just the harness.

    I resealed the entire thing.

I've thought about doing the 1997- ecu for the supercharger, but read that the entire harness would have to be swapped. Is this true?

Not sure about the harness, mine truck was original with the v6,
I bought my knock sensors off eBay DESNO for 120.00 for the pair, the knock sensors are actually dated
So you know if they are new or not and sealed in the bag, Just make sure they are DESNO
