mmkay. I'm about to be the grateful recipient of a 20k windfall. I want to find a 1/4 ton tacoma (standard and 4x4 of course)and put a small block V8 into it. Is it doable with this much? would I need more? What are the best years/trims/ etc etc for such a project?

Contact Tundra Racing. $20k should be PLENTY for a swap of this nature. A 2JZ-GTE can be had for about that cost.

They dropped an LS6 into a reg cab tacoma. And they are currently working on dropping one into an X-Runner.

For 20k...including purchasing the truck...no...unless you start with a SHITTY taco. In that case, what's the point?

What if i managed to find the base truck outside the 20k? I could probably find the know-how to do much of the work myself, I'm neighbors with a guy that works on performance vehicles, and am acquainted with a few truck lovers

haha I've learned to love (and hate) rain with my '99 ranger. this thing couldn't be any lighter, and with 2 wheel drive it slides like it has a beast engine but it's only packing a whopping 4cylinders of fury :( but heaven forbid I drive on a highway during rain....*shudder*

Good point, I overlooked the part where he was still looking for a truck.

Even then, you could probably still do it. If you can find a truck for $10k or less, then you will be able to do the swap with the remaining $10k (assuming you do most of the work yourself).

You can get an LS1 or LS6 + trans for around $2500-$3000 in good condition. Tundra Racing makes the motor mounts, radiator, plus other swap parts.

I'll be trading in the ranger too, and know a couple people willing to give a few thousand. not enough to buy the coma, but close enough to probably give me a little over 10k left over. What year coma should i look for?? I have a buddy with the '03 and you can't beat that little truck, it does everything, but older=cheaper and easier to work on
