    Ok, looking for expert opinions and or advice. Looking at an 06 TRD OR DCSB w/153K miles on it for $15,500.00. What are issues with 06 models, is this mileage too high for the price? Truck is in good condition, has a camper shell as well.

    Thanks in advance

    I work at a Toyota dealership so maybe I can offer some advise. The topper adds absolutely nothing unless your going to use it. We have them removed when we trade for them because it doesn't help. If the front axles haven't been replaced look under the front and see if they're throwing grease. Transmission should be flushed if it hasn't already. Lastly and it's a big one, frame rust. Have it inspected at your local Toyota dealer.

    It's hard to imagine a 2006 still being worth $15,500 from a private party. If it were at a dealership and been reconditioned and/or has a warranty than maybe.

    The only issue I've ever heard specific to the 2006 is the head gasket. Other issues are pretty general Tacoma cautions. I wouldn't call 153k high mileage though, that's just getting started.

    Thanks, I'll def take a look at that. Do you think a Toyota Dealership would charge to take a look at it for frame rust?

    It's not a private party, it's an Independent Dealer which I'm already a little comprehensive about. The miles I guess aren't that bad, it's what an average of 13K a year about....

    No, a Toyota dealership won't charge you to look for frame rust.

    Think the head gasket was 05, and only early 06 maybe?

    I said in another thread that there are three kinds of new car dealers:

    1. Good;
    2. OK;
    3. Suck monkey balls in hell;

    Used car dealers come in only two flavours, the last two...

    Just purchased an 06 DCSB TRD OR with 108K miles, new frame, 1 owner, and all service done at Toyota dealer for $15K. Local trade in at a very large and well respected Honda Dealership. A lot of this depends on where you are located.

    I looked at a lot of "used car" dealerships and decided I wouldn't ever buy from one. Here is my reasoning: Used car dealerships (the ones on the side of the road with a flashy name and cars that are too good to be true) are getting their cars from auctions. These cars are getting to an auction because a certified Toyota/Honda/GM/etc dealership got the vehicle as a trade and didn't want to sell it on their lot. Why didn't they want to sell it on their lot? My suspicion is that they knew they couldn't sell it for the price they wanted, and why couldn't they do that? Probably because it's not that good of a truck, meaning it has something wrong with it. A certified Toyota dealership doesn't paint over rust on a frame to hide it, a sleazy dealership does.

    Disclaimer: I have nothing but anecdotal evidence to back this claim up and it is not meant to offend anyone who runs a small used car dealership. There are people who cannot afford a car from a certified dealership and are left with no choice but to buy from a "no credit no problem guy" but that usually turns into a never ending cycle of being in crappy cars.

    There is one other reason new car dealers will "wholesale" (send off to auction) a vehicle--if it is in such good shape, and old enough that it's relatively not worth much, and would interfere with the sale of new cars or newer trades on which profit would be higher. These may/could/maybe be a good deal if purchased at an "OK" used car lot, as scaled in my prior post--and IF properly inspected prior to sale.

    FWIW "OK" used car dealers are few and far between--99.44% of them are "monkey ballers"...
