Question here regarding 1st gen seat belts. De they have pre-tensioner (the explosive thing)? I wonder if they will let me take them to check-in bag in a plane. Guy from Toyota told me that they can only be transported ground. Is it true?

You can view the transportation regulations online to verify, specifically if you Google 49CFR 173.166 Safety Devices. That regulation states that "a seat-belt pretensioner contains similar hazardous materials (to an air bag inflator) and is used in the operation of a seat-belt restraining system." It goes on to state that these can possibly be considered a UN3268 Safety Device which is listed on the Hazardous Materials Table at 172.101 as a Class 9 (Miscellaneous) fully regulated hazmat.

Passenger airlines are not going to let you bring that onboard. So he is correct, if it has that pretensioner which....I'm not sure of.

That sounds ridiculous. There's no pretensioner in 1st gens that I know of. Might call USPS or FEDEX or one of the privately owned shipping stores and ask.

You say that but as I'm looking online there is a company that offers pretensioner rebuilds/reset/recharge services and 2001+ Toyota Tacomas are listed vehicles that this is offered on.

I saw that too, but as far as I can remember the only wire for air bags connects to the seat. I do not remember any wires going to the seat belt when I removed mine, there would need to be some kind of wire to transmit a signal for the pre-tensioner to "fire"

Maybe it's a manual pretensioner without the pressure recepticle and they just rebuild that? Honestly I've never taken apart my seat belt mechanism to check. If there's no igniter/booster material/gas generant/pressure receptacle I don't see what they could consider hazmat...

Pretensioners? Yes, at least on the 99 extracab.
Owners manual talks about precautions due to the "explosive" properties and "smoke" when they go off.

They have the tensioner. There are wires that go to the tensioners. Please try to transport them on the plane. Report back...after you post bail?LOL.

I don't know why they couldn't be sent thru checked bags. They are not dangerous without the ECU to supply voltage to fire them.

There is a yellow decal that shows you that they have the charge that coils up the belt.

Can't you just ship them? Flat rate box works great. I've shipped them many times (shh, I know you are not supposed to).

I used to have just the K&N filter on my previous truck and I thought it was a pain in the ass to clean and oil. People on here complain about it screwing with the MAF sensor but mine didn't have any issues.

AFe and Volant make CAIs with dry filters where you wouldn't have to worry about oiling/cleaning and messing up your sensor.

Thanks. The Volant looks pretty sleek. Not sure if the cost is justifiable at this point. I have to make the outside look pretty (lift/rims/tires) before I make the engine bay look pretty.

My truck came with one. You could see the oil all over the inside and on the MAF.

Switched to an AFE dry filter..been rocking that for years.
