I couldn't live with myself if I had my GF on the back with no helmet and we crashed and she was injured/killed

My favorite is when I see guys riding around with a girl on the back and he's wearing the helmet while she isn't

Weeeeeellllllll........I feel like I'm about to get a bunch of sh!t thrown at me........

I've been pretty interested in the FZ (either 07 or 09), but now after reading this, I'm not so sure....what am I missing here? Or, at least can you point me in the right direction?

Its a good fun bike but it depends what you want, It was my first bike so I wasn't really sure what I was getting into so as I rode longer I figured it wasn't the bike for me. I just wanted something built better with nicer parts, sort of like the suspension on my truck. Wasted all that money on something I'm not happy with but now I know what I want in the future lol

I don't have any experience with a 09 so someone else can pitch in on that

Gotcha. The way I read your post made it sound like I should be worried, or there was some negative/apprehensive "everyone knows about ______ " mentality around it (like Tacoma owners towards Ridgelines ).

Nah. Really my biggest issues with the bike is the suspension, brakes, and tank size. I could probably make the bike how I really want it but the money spent make more sense going to a new bike.

I've never ridden an FZ-09, but I've put a little over 7,000 miles on my FZ-07 and it's been great so far. Especially for the cost brand new. In my opinion you can't get more bike from anywhere else for the cost.

If you're looking for something that does great in city environments, can canyon carve, and do the occasional long highway ride it's a great bike. My only complaint would be the lack of wind protection, but it's a naked bike and it's bearable for my daily 70 mile commute on the highway.

It's a great starter bike, but also gives you enough power to not get bored. Just comes down to what you want from a bike. It can't compete with an R6 or other supersport bikes with a good rider, but it's definitely a great hooligan bike.

My first [and current] bike is a Honda VTX 1300C. I love the thing, don't get me wrong, but I find myself wanting to sit in a more standard position, rather than reaching my legs out to the forward controls. It's been a daily driver for almost 2.5 years, and it's been modified for plenty of power (chopped airbox, exhaust, new jet kit), but now I'm starting to look for the next one. I don't like the idea of a croch-rocket (because my lead wrist WILL get me killed), but the hooligan/duel-sport aspect is really catching my eye.

I think Cycle World and other places have the same opinion on those issues.

I have an 09, and although Ive ridden/owned some bikes, I am not a credible resource hah. I agree the suspension dives when braking, and is not comparable to others in the class.. But $10 per cc (for the 09) is an awesome deal! For me, the cost-to-fun ratio is very low.

The suspension and brakes you can upgrade, if you feel like they are not worthy, or you have reached their limits.

I saw the blurple wheels, and wanted it. I sold my "rare" Triumph Speed Triple 1050, and got on a waiting list.

Yeah, I love upright-sitting bikes. I've never really cared for the leaned forward position of true sport bikes either. Both the FZ-07 and 09 have a great sitting position.

The FZ-07's seat is pretty nice for a sport bike, but I'm sure it's not as comfortable as that cruiser of yours. It's suspension isn't as good as more expensive bikes either, but it's better than the 2016 and older FZ-09 suspension and it works great for me since I'm only ~125lbs.

The FZ-09 is definitely the better bike if you're looking for something that's scary fast due to it's raw power for a naked bike. The FZ-07 will only do ~128mph from what I'm told... :spy:

But, from what I'm told by many people is that the FZ-09 is almost too much in any other mode other than B mode when you're wanting to cruise.

I ride in standard mode most of the time. I recently let @CanisLupus ride in B mode, and it was a complete difference in power, compared to his Ninja 300 (also a different class). I sat on his and could barely get adjusted. It was so slow and small! Sorry Matt.

I think you'd be surprised. You have to fork over some serious $$$ for a comfortable seat! I picked up a Danny Grey "Buttcrack" (smaller and narrower than the one pictured) and a Danny Grey "Big Seat" (the one in the picture) because they're contoured to your butt, and they were on Closeout. Yes, they're WAY better than stock, but my ass still starts going numb after a 30 minute commute to work.

Regarding the forks: I wonder if you could switch out the springs and call it good. My VTX would always nosedive coming to a stop sign and wouldn't corner well. I put in some Progressive springs and 2oz extra fork oil, and now it rides like a dream and I can carve corners with ease (even 2-up).
It sounds like the 07 would be perfect for what I want. The only setback would be that riding 2-up wouldn't be much fun for the wife. I guess I'll have to get her, her own bike :D :bikewheelie:

the 09 seat sucks! I cant ride for more than an hour before I need to stretch. Yes, the seats are big money.. like $400+ ! One reason why I have not gotten one. But then again, I havent been on many long distance rides. I just bomb around town, or look for twisties.

Springs/oil are a popular upgrade on fz-09.org forum. I just have not done it yet. I want to go big or go home, and get the full fork upgrade. (which is more than my Taco's suspension)

For me the FZ-07 seat starts getting uncomfortable after about 2 hours of riding, so it's definitely not a bad seat imo.

My 07 doesn't dive too much. Slightly more than a supersport, but not enough to bother me. But, again, I'm not a lot of added weight.

2-up is not fun on this bike to me. At all. Doesn't help that I'm short, but my wife is so far back over the rear wheel that it's not fun to ride in any way but a straight line. But that's the same with an sport bike.

Im sure the suspension isn't bad when you only weigh 125, but I have nearly 100lbs on you plus the bike only goes 107 with me on it and that was downhill.

Its nice not having to go full throttle just to keep up with traffic haha, but the unfortunate part is anything past 2nd gear is trouble
