Off-Roading w/Locker On (Prerunner)

Wazupp,

I have a 2005 Prerunner with off-roading package and I hear from fellow TWers that it's ok to drive with the locker on when situations are uncertain.

Do you think there'll be any harm in leaving the locker on while off-roading to reduce the chance of getting stuck?

I do it sometimes. You will be fine. Turning is a little different tho. I've gone 30 mph through a wash with it on.

 

When you say uncertain... you don't mean pavement do you? Cause if you do... do NOT run it on pavement, especially in rain. It'll kick you around faster than you can blink, plus put horrendous stress on the suspension and drive-train.

That said, if you're out in the sand/dirt/mud/ect... you can leave it in gauged all day long. I've had mine up to 70mph in the sand... no issues. It's a completely different handling game though... you need to be prepared and test out how it acts locked, it's wayyyy different.

I was talking about sand, dirt, and mud for sure! No freaking way I would use it on pavement!!

So with the locker on, I won't damage anything going above 5 MPH? And it'll reduce the chances of me getting stuck while off-roading with the locker on?

How much PSI should I keep my tires at while off roading?

the dealership when i purchased my truck said that driving any faster than 10mph with it on is a bad idea.......i dont know why but thats what they told me

You can keep it on and you will be fine. I've been up all the way to 65 with it on.

PSI is all depending on what type of stuff you are doing. Sand I normally do 15-18 PSI and if its more like rock crawling type of stuff I do 18-20. other then That I normally just leave it at 30 stock unless I need it. But I also have after market tires too.
