I am getting a Leer 100 XR put on at the end of the month and I'm going to put a Prinsu Toprac on top of that. I know that they make awing mounts to go off the side of the truck, however I think having an awning coming off the back would be more useful. I guess I have a couple questions though. Could I cook on the tailgate without harming the awning directly overhead? If so, how do I mount that bitch off the back of a Prinsu rack and have it be sturdy and not look like shit? Fallback plan is to just mount it off the side...

Scroll down on the first page of this thread and there are 2 options that people typically go for: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-prinsu-how-to-thread.412679/

I used the supplied bent plate from CVT with washers (you need roughly 1/4" to get them level with the side plates on the cab rack - might be different for the top rack). Doesn't budge at all for me and you can't see them unless you are above the truck.

I'm not sure what you mean how they get it off the back... the crossbar slots work the same way no matter if you hang something off the side or back of the truck. In fact, since you don't have the side plates of the rack to deal with off the back you won't have to use spacers to get the supplied awning brackets from CVT to clear.

This is correct for sure. I used the brackets that came with the CVT awning and used fender washers as spacers. You wouldnt need those if attaching it to open towards the back. The 2 mounts would get bolted into the bars and then the awning hung from there. I have been considering the Prinsu awning mount since it does lift the position of the awning higher than those cvt brackets with spacers. Instead of buying it, i just added more spacers/washers to lift it up a little more. All good on passenger side clearance.
