I put 23,465 miles on my 2016 Tacoma in the first year, and have no complaints whatsoever. The truck is an SR, Access Cab, 4cyl., 5 sp. manual. It did not come with intermittent wipers, so I changed out the wiper switch with an OEM intermittent unit and they work perfectly. Put a set of Weather-Tech mud flaps on it and a Leer 180 cap.

Even with the 4 cylinder engine it has enough power for my needs. I take frequent trips from Connecticut to Cape Cod, and it cruises effortlessly at 75 mph the whole way. The interior is comfortable and noticeably more spacious that my 1st generation Tacoma was. Overall I have no complaints.

OK...people asked for a picture, so here it is. The only options I ordered on it were the black rims and the all-weather floor mats. I added the cap, the window visors and Weather-tech mud flaps. It was ordered with the factory tow-hitch receiver but they forgot to include it when they built the truck so the dealer had an after-market receiver installed, which I think is actually a better one than what the factory puts on.

16.5k miles after 14 months of ownership, no regrets on the purchase and the truck performs pretty much as expected.

In that year I had the LCA plugs installed and first release of the transmission flash done to correct the R - D delay. Other than that, no evidence of the typical reported issues such as hood sealant separation, diff whine, steering wheel or pedal vibration.

Power is adequate; it's not full size capable and it's not perfect but it's what I wanted and expected from a Taco.

I don't think ANY 4 cylinder comes out of San Antonio with a trailer hitch bolted to the frame. These are always added at the dealer. The hitches on the tow package trucks are meaty or at least they were on the 2nd gens.

Nice truck! My 2016 is now just over one year old as well and I have no complaints at all, well except poor gas mileage. Great truck though.

Is that a Leer 180 cap you have? Looks great. I am considering that model for my truck. I like the additional interior height.

Any thoughts you want to share about the cap? Thanks.

EDIT: Also, if you don't mind, tell me about those window visors. Brand? Likes and dislikes? Thanks.

I am 1 year out as well, but far fewer miles (8k either city driving or up and down I-80 in Sierras). I have added some upgrades and tried to fix problems. Initially wanted to get rid of it but decided to ride it out until something better comes along. Below is what I did and what I like/hate.

    CHANGES:
    1. added KO2's 265/75 16's
    2. added roof rack
    3. added Husky liners
    4. added Lo-Pro winch bumper from Relentless with Warn winch
    5. TRD Pro grill
    6. new windshield when it cracked on way home from dealer from a *tiny little pebble*
    7. upgraded to larger group battery

    LOVES:
    1. the overall look and feel of the truck (except that damn grill which I fixed)
    2. great off road in 4-lo
    3. nice ride in town and on highway
    4. quiet on highway
    5. glad they changed the E-brake configuration

    DISLIKES:
    1. the interior is pretty minimal and seats fit me well based on my body type (6'1" and longer legs, shorter torso) but I hate the crappy interior options. My 2002 4Runner had a more adjustable and comfortable interior than this truck. My wife who has a long torso hates riding in it because her head is near ceiling.
    2. The engine and transmission power curve, response and shift pattern (tried many fixes, all TSB's, bitching to dealer, etc....). Like most, I now drive in S4 only (S5 on highway) and with ECT engaged all the time to stop my screaming. (thinking about trying out a peddle commander)
    3. Lack of 12V power & ventilation in rear. Again, my 2002 4Runner had 12v and air flow heating/cooling controls and vents for rear passengers
    4. I did not like the smart key system but I am used to it now and like it, but why didn't they make all door handles functional???
    5. why oh why did they make two separate keys for tailgate and truck. Stupid.

    WISHES:
    1. obviously a better engine and/or transmission to add *some* low end torque and throttle response and STOP THE GEAR HUNTING
    2. at least make the auto door handle active on passenger side
    3. electric rear window would be nice, but not necessary
    4. electric tailgate lock with the SAME KEY as rest of truck
    5. better seats with height adjustment, leather interior options
    6. improved center console ergonomics
    7. put the front bed rail back in, why is it gone? If you don't order a tonneau cover they should give you the damn rail
    8. bed lights like Tundra
