Door handle R/R

Thanks, but how do you release the two small integral clips that holds the rear cap to the inner mount, as with the torx screw out the cap is loose but won't come off, and the new right rear cover has two integral clips that snap into the black plastic inner mount, but so far I have not been able to locate the clips where they clip into the inner mount so that I can release them.

The drivers door rear cover does not have the two plastic clips, and instead has what looks like a locking tab on the front end of it, and the white cover that's on the truck has the same locking tab.

 

What clips/tabs are you talking about?

If the cover won't come out after you back out the Torx screw, grab the Torx screw with some needle-nose pliers and pull it out of the retainer. Then the cover should practically fall off.

It's funny that you mentioned removing the captive torx screw for the rear cover, as I was thinking last night that even though I unscrewed the screw, that maybe it was still keeping the cover from coming off. So I was going to remove it completely this morning after I get back from the gym

Here's some pics of the passenger side rear cover with the clips on it, and maybe they are something that's was added to the 17's, and I'll compare it to the white cover that's on the truck now once I get it off. If after completely removing the captive torx screw and I still can't get the cover off, than I'll assume that it's these two clips that are still holding it in place.

 

you switched your black door handles for black door handles?

 

No, he swapped out chrome handles for black ones.

Agreed. I swapped from meh OR grill to "legit" SR grille. Imo, SR grille's overall look is as good as the Pro grille.

 

I fully removed the captive torx screw and popped the rear cover off, and I opened the door handle and pulled reward on it and it cam right out. So beergeek, you are correct that you don't have to remove the door panel to replace the door handle. I'm a happy camper now.

Here a pic of the door handle installed and the matte black non painted SR handles and rear covers look great and match the SR mirror covers and rear bumper caps.

If you do need to remove the door panel for any reason it's very easy to do, and the adhesive for the vapor barrier is reusable and will stick back upon itself. So I used a single edge razor to carefully cut the adhesive in half as I pulled the vapor barrier away.

So now I'm going to install the door panel and then install the drivers side door handle.

Yes, but the Limited comes with chrome.

 

So what makes you think, adrwshry has a limited?

 

Except in the picture in this thread it is clearly a sport.

 

It's a Limited, but you can go ahead and believe that it's a Sport and that he spent $350+ to swap out the black handles for black handles, because that makes way more sense.

I also want to get rode of the chrome mirrors...anyone done that in here?

 

I did away with every bit of chrome on my mine:



Foglight bezels, headlights, tail lights, badges, mirrors, turn signals, door handles, & grille.

I got a red limited i want to get rid of the chrome too, where did you get all your stuff to black it out
