I want to put a cap on my 2016 MGM TRD Sport AC and am leaning towards the Leer 180 due to its slightly higher but not too high roof. I will be camping/sleeping in the back on a platform and the extra height would be nice.

Nearly all the online pictures I have found of them are shot from a slight or drastic angle. Do any of you guys have a Leer 180 on a 3rd Gen long bed and have a picture showing straight profile?

In MGM would be even better. :)

    Thanks in advance.

Not a Leer but a Snugtop Hi Liner Sport. We liked the features much better than Leer.

That looks great, cascadetaco! Love the color. :)

What features of the Snugtop did you prefer over the Leer?

    Thanks.

The door lock hardware (not having to unlock 2 locks and latches!), the option to make it keyless using the factory toyota key, the rain gutter built in to the back door opening, over size sliders on the side with removable screens. We checked out ARE, LEER, and ST. Snug won hands down and we got a good deal...2500 installed w/fold down sliding front, over size side windows, headliner, keyless entry wired up so it takes 2 presses on key to open, and yakima tracks. No one could come close for those options.

Those are great points, cascadetaco. I'll keep those in mind while figuring out my purchase.

Great looking truck, Hobbs! I love the Big Pine area. Your 180 with the sliding windoors is exactly what I've been thinking of for mine. Thanks for all the pictures, it really helps me out. And bummer about your back rear tire, but hopefully later on you scored with the metal detector!

Avoid sliding windoors on Leer caps. They leak like a waterfall.

Both of my windoors leaked all around the perimeter, as well as through the sliding part of the windoor and the locks. The front window leaked in the same manner (perimeter and sliding window). The sides of the cap leaked under the cap itself. Horrible leakage all around.

Heard similar things from a few local guys with ARE caps.

Personally, I think the Leer 180 is the best looking mid rise topper for the 3rd gen. I do not like the “soft” lines of the ARE comparable topper.

Agree with the 'soft' lines take. Do you know your total max height including the rack? Trying to keep it below 7'0" for a pesky parking garage...

Was that cap originally black or another non-matching color and wanted the gray and black two-tone?

Topper was Red but picked it up for $600. Drove around for about 4 months red topper, cement truck combo... Surprisingly, I didnt hate it. Finally, I spray painted with rattle cans to get by. Probably won’t last for years and years with the matte black color it’s really hard to notice imperfections.

I’ll grab those measurements in the morning.
