Nice, so with the 6.8 SPC what do you thinking plinking distance would be? I would also need a 6.8 BCG right? Do I need a specific charging handle for it too?

Looking at it from a purely ballistics standpoint I would be comfortable using a 6.8 chambered 12.5" barrel for hunting deer out to 400 yards with the right load. Plinking will depend on how accurate your rifle is capable of being with your ammo.
This chart is for either an 18" or 16" barrel, Remington core lokt ammo which is known to be light for the SPC 2 chamber. From my research with Silver State Armory (SSA) ammo people push 2700-2800 FPS out of a 12.5" with a 90 Gr. projectile.

Correct, the bolt is different on the 6.8, the bolt carrier is mil-spec (5.56) though, so if you want to just experiment with the cartridge you can get a 6.8 bolt to drop into the 5.56 bolt carrier.
Charging handle is mil-spec, mags are not, I use PRI 6.8 mags and have not had a mag related failure from either the 25 round or 15 round versions.

    18" JP Rifle 6.5 Grendel.
Sighted in, sot a 100 yard group, then took it to 300, 500, 700, and 800.
    Minimal wind but heavy mirage.
This photo is rounds 30 thru 40 out of this rifle. 9 hits, one miss.
100 yard group wasn't spectacular. Should only get better once it has more rounds through it.

How do you like the 6.5 Grendel? Are rounds easy to come by and pretty cheap to shoot?

I stand corrected. I was comparing it to 55gr Fiocchi for 1000 at .28 cents a round

It is new manufactured brass, non magnetic. It still wrapped up as it case from the factory.

I only have 40 rounds out of it so far but do like it. Hit's at distance are way easier than with a quality .223 rifle with only a tad more recoil.
Rounds range from .25 to $1 each.
Over 40 factory ammo options IIRC.
I'll be reloading for it at some point. Have all the supplies.

Maybe I'll look into building a quality 6.5 Grendel instead of a 6.8 SPC SBR.

It's a crap shoot not knowing how it will run. I want to try a few boxes of any ammo before buying that amount. One time I bought a case of Winchester 22-250 only to find out my gun hated it.

I guess I could also use it to make my AR a very expensive cat toy.

If you read this and many other posts by LRRPF52 you'd be sold. He convinced me and many others (without trying)just by the way he describes how 'boring' it is to shoot between 500 and 1000yrds. How hard the the round smacks steel, its high bc, etc etc.

The way he talks about its the end all be all round.
Here's just one of his posts. Also lots on 6.5grendel.com
One of his posts towards the bottom:

I have a nice cleaning kit with polymer rods. Problem is that its for a pistol, not enough length. So what do yall think of this?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011X9V70I

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BD4X7QQ

Its expensive, but looks kewl enough, and includes the carbon scraper ive seen used. There is also a version with coated steel rods instead of brass for $10 less.

Other option is the bore snake. Is it enough on its own or should i still use a bore brush?

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C50K3

    Opinions please.

There nice! I buy fiberglass rods for my rifles, they don't affect the barrel.
