When you traded in a basically new truck, for a brand new truck how much did you pay upgrading. Give details to please.

    My considerations.

    Currently Have (Potential Trade-In Candidate)
    2017 Tacoma Auto
    DCSB TRD Sport 4x4
    Tech w/o JBL
    Tow PKG
15k miles (currently 7,500. By the time 2018 released probably 15k)

    Trade Towards (When Released)
    2018 Tacoma Auto
    DCSB TRD OR 4x4
    Tech w/ JBL
    Tow PKG

I'll see if the dealership will let me trade my wheels and tires between both truck then they can sale my trade in with new OR Wheels and A/T's. Reason for this is because I have TRD Beadlocks w/ Toyo's.

Let's keep all discussions on topic, thanks.

I'm working on the same thing. I have a 2016 Limited and looking for either a 2017 Limited or a Tundra.

I just stopped by the dealership today and they offered me $31,000 for my Tacoma. Carmax offered me $32,000. KBB instant offer is $33,000. Current market has 2017 Limiteds right around $38,000-$39,000. I'm trying to keep the upgrade cost below $4,000 so I'm trying to sell private party right now.

Just out of interest, is it only because you want an OR & JBL, or other reasons?

I'm sorry, you said keep on topic, but a gotta ask. I'm sorry.

Why do you give a shit about trade value on brand new vehicle, If you are willing to take that kind of bath, that quickly? do you really need to maximize trade in money?

Why did you buy a Toyota in the 1st place?

I apologize, I just need to know what is going on inside your head.

I bought mine used and decided I want to get a brand new truck. When I was shopping, it was nearly impossible to find a decent deal on the 2017. In the last 4 months, I've seen prices come down about $2,000-$2,500. I paid $33,000 plus shipping for mine, so about $35,000 total to my doorstep including registration fees. I'd like to get $35,000 for it if possible and find a dealership willing to go down to about $38,000...but I'm expecting to actually gap about $4,000 between my sale price and what a buy at.

Based on the original post, looks like he wants to go from a Sport to an Offroad.

I believe you are the one "being an ass". I simply made a comment agreeing with another member as to the wisdom of pissing money down the "new car/truck" hole; and now you have escalated it to a personal character assault...

Why do you buy anything, bc you want it. None of us are in tacoma bc we need them.

Okay so heres my price breakdown.

I'm getting an 18 over 17. Starting from 0 miles again.

Safety sense, some look at it as pointless but I really like the 17 platinum f250 with its version of it.

Better audio, I don't want to take door panels off and risk rattles.

Off Road It has rear locker, if I decide to go ARB in the future still im sure someone on here will pay a pretty penny for the e locker.

I'm not a die hard OR vs sport one is superior guy.

The bigger rear axle, crappy locker that's worth probably $600, safety sense, and audio would be main reasons.

Just looking for what people have lost jumping from a 1 year old tacoma to a newer one.

To simplify what my situation would be if I bought new and not used:
    2016 new: $40,000
    sell 2016: $34,000
    2017 new: $40,000

I'd eat $6,000 in the 18 months it's been on the road.

I swap out vehicles generally every 18 to 24 months. I drive much more than you and my last Taco was a second gen. Bought it new in November of 12 for ~ 34k traded it April of 14 for ~ 26k. It was a DCSB 4x4 T|X Pro with ~ 77k miles. So about 25% less than what I paid.

I may be wrong, but I believe the more your truck retails for the more you can expect to lose. I'll have to look at my paperwork again, but I gave 35400 + tax and tag for my 17.

Where are you pulling your sell or trade in numbers from. NADA trade in would be amazing, kbb trade in would not and I would not trade for that.

My post above has more details. Carmax offered me $32,000 saturday. Toyota dealership near Seattle offered me $31,000 today. KBB instant cash offer was $33,000.

I've had it posted for sale at $35,500 and haven't gotten an offer in 2 weeks.

"Want" and "need" are on a continuum--you can want something so badly you need it, and you can need something so badly you want it--they meet in the middle.

The most sage wisdom I can offer is from Spock (Mr. not Dr.) in Star Trek, season 2, episode 1 (“Amok Time”, 1968):

“After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true.”

FWIW at age 72, retired and living longer than I ever thought I would, I'd love to have back just 10% (or even 5%) of the money I spent on things I "wanted" vs, things I "needed"--hindsight is 20/20...

I'm impressed. I can say this is the first purchase (big purchase) I've made knowingly lost money.

    1st truck when I was 16 I'm 25 now.
    98 Dodge Dakota
    Regular Cab
    2.5L manual
    100k miles $1700 dollars
    165k miles sold for $1500

    2011 VW Golf TDI manual
    10k miles when bought $18500
48k miles when totaled, insurance gave me $18900

    2000 Jeep Wrangler Toy.
    Paid $5500
3 years later sold for $6500

    2013 VW TDI manual.
    45k miles paid $17000
February 3 w/95k miles VW have me just under $23k when all said and done.

Within 2 weeks I bought and flipped a 1st gen tacoma from 1000 to 1800 earlier this year.

    I just get bored sometimes.

Think of how "bored" you won't be when you're retired and have all that (saved) money to spend on stuff that matters to you then...

Nothing wrong with that. I'd say not the most fiscally wise thing, but we like what we like. The guy who leased my truck planned to buy it after the lease but found out he had a kid on the way, so that didn't happen

    Wait, financially it wasn't bad..

I bought a truck and jumped terraces in my field and ran dirt roads for 2 weeks in a 4x4 manual tacoma I paid a grand for and sold it for 1800. I got paid to have fun. Lol
