ARB Breather kit install

just finished my ARB Breather kit install 16 Tacoma off road. Still don't know where the transfer case Breather is. I was told it splits and connects the the transmission line. I have the front, rear and transmission connected. Let me know if you find info on the location of the transfer case breather. No one knows for sure or just links to 2nd Gen diagrams and DIY's.

 

Nice. Looks like u just added and extension to the breather lines in the engine compartment. Did the arb kdit have those barbed fittings? Apologies as I'm still waiting on mine to arrive.

 

that was the only fitting I had to get. $3 for a pack. The kit comes with enough line to route the rear to the front and those other 2. The ARB line fits inside the Breather line on one of them. I just used duck tape for reference for about 1.5" and pushed it in. The clip that holds them from moving is enough pressure to hold the line in place. I pulled to see if it would come out and it doesn't move at all. The original breathers don't have clamps...so I figured it didn't need them.

To know. Once I get my kit I'll do the same, I may rescue tape it though to make sure it doesn't pull out.

I've yet to find anyone who has gotten the transfer case breather or found it on the third gen. approximately how much hose did you end up left over with?

 

Current setup as of now.

 

It's a snug fit on the line. You have to force it in. That's why I just put it back in the clamp that holds it in place and pulled. It won't come out. If you remove it from the clamp...you can force it out. I had about 3-4 feet left over. Use your best judgment on routing the lines. I routed them in back of the battery. The rear diff routed with a wiring harness that follows the frame, over the fuel tank and to the rear brake lines. I used duck tape where the line contacts the metal bracket also to protect it from movement.

I found the locations of the breathers for the transmission and transfer case. the two in the engine bay are for the front axle only. The transmission breather has a white cap and the transfer case has 2 breathers...one on the top of it and another connected to a black box. Not sure if that's the actuator that controls it, but they both route just on top of the transmission. You can see all 3 breathers in one of the pictures. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If the transfer case has two breathers like your picture shows, and the front/rear axle/transmission are already connected, are you short a connection for the transfer case? Did you ever run the lines for the transfer case?

Probably just ended up hoping the two lines together to get them to use the same fitting. I have done most of mine, the transfer case ones in the back of the engine are another story though. Still trying to figure out how to get to them to install the line.

 

In total there's 5 points that hook up to the breather
front diff ADD (in engine bay by battery)
front diff housing (by battery as well)
transmission and tcase housing (towards the firewall between the brake reservoir and engine)
T case actuator, in the actuator vented under the truck
rear diff (on the pumpkin)

I'll check if I can get pictures.

I think a lot of stuff is hidden now under fuse panel etc

Ok just looked under can't remember what we did but I have 6 points going

T case and front diff actuator is one
Diff housings are another
Then I think there might be two from the t case and trans.

Here's the front diff. The Red you see is coming from the t case actuator which y connects to the front diff actuator this is right by the oil fill


Hard to see but the silver is an existing one that was spliced into I believe the trans and t case. And then the black line beside it is another breather I'm thinking rear diff



I'd need to look at it at home with the skids off. Really don't remember when we did it at the shop. Would need to open it up and look

 

Thanks, I am referring to the Tranny and Case housing lines at the back of the engine compartment. I do not have small hands and they are way down, hard to get to from both ends. Granted when I attempted to d it it was -20 and I didn't put that much time into it.

I do recall when doing these we did it all from under with the truck on a lift and cool because you need to reach up by the down pipes.

 

I didn't combine the lines for the front diff. So, I am short one breather and had to just extend the line and put the original breather back on.

 

the only one I combined was the tcase, but I still need to combine the front diff breathers to fit all 4 spots on the ARB Kit. 6 breathers total.

 

have you done anything for sealing electronics in the engine compartment?
