    What you need to do is hide your mods in plain sight and convince her it's a good thing to do (it will improve mileage, it will do better in bad weather, etc.)

    Back when I had my Tundra I had purchased my Bilstein 5100 lifting shocks with some birthday money from Mom and Dad, but I needed to figure out a way to get them installed without her pitching a hissy fit over the expense (I didn't have the necessary tools to do it myself).

    Then one day we were walking across a parking lot. She looked at my truck from a distance and asked "Why is the front of your truck lower than the back?" referring to the factory rake. Without skipping a beat, I turned the Bullshit Generator up to full power and told her "That's because the front shock absorbers are wearing out. The weight of the engine is causing them to sag."

    Then she, ever the prudent one, says "Well, you better get that fixed. We can't afford to buy a new truck so we need to take care of the one we have."

    Sure honey. No problem. I'll make an appointment to have it done.
