I've used brass rods in the past, but with much anxiety. I'm about to switch to bore snakes, but that's just me.

Played with the Grendel some more today. Groups at 100 are getting better but still need work.

Few photo's of my redneck bench and a scope view. Recently made the longer top for the bench. It just sits on the bench, don't really need the clamps.

I used this method and install took all of 90 seconds. TRS-25 & UTG mid riser arrived too. TRS has a bit of a flare in the sight. It looks less like a dot* and more like a fuzzy slash. Future possible upgrades: Hogue stock and rubberized grip, maybe a sling. But first: another mag and ammo!

*Looks like a dot in the picture, but not to my eye. Possibly of importance: I have astigmatism in both eyes.

Try not to focus on the dot itself but rather on the target. This may sharpen the dot up a bit. I had an eotech and thought the same thing but I trained my eye to focus on the target and it cleared right up.

Pretty cool, but spendy and difficult to come by from what I've heard. No personal experience shooting one though.

I hear there is just a super longer waiting list like an NFA item. They use a proprietary bolt but from what Ive seen you can shave yours down to work with it

I had an idea regarding the cleaning kits.

Has anyone tried to plasti-derp their cleaning rods?

Why is everyone afraid of brass cleaning rods? Brass is way softer than any material a barrel is made out of...

It was just a thought. I posted the same question on Calguns and got the same replies. No need to fear brass rods in a steel barrel.

    Next question:

How often do you clean the gas tube and gas block? I haven't found any YouTube videos dealing with this that do not involve removing the gas block completely.

My upper has a permanently fixed flash suppressor. So I can not even get to the gas block as I can not slide my rail forward past the muzzle. The only way to get to it is by unbolting the rail , sliding it forward far enough for me to get to the barrel nut, then remove the whole barrel.

How do you all go about servicing the gas system?

It requires no servicing. Problem solved.

I use brass all the time. And that's if I clean my barrel. I go easily 1500-2000 rounds to clean my rifle barrels.

Think about it like a muffler. The gas coming in is so hot that it burns some of the old off but leaving a little behind. So it cleans it out but leaves a little behind making it kind of dirty. Same goes for centerfire suppressors. Rim fires however, need to be cleaned because it doesn't get hot enough to burn the old off.
