Not true. They CAN cause those problems with SOME tire/wheel combinations, but not true as a broad strokes answer. And they are no different than a wheel with more offset.

 

Spacers did NOT "make it worse" on mine. To the contrary....eliminated uca rub and did not cause rubbing in any other area. Spacers are absolutely no different than wheels with more offset. On my 5th Tacoma with spacers...and stock wheels with 285's

Got mine on. I'm glad I went with these instead of 1" I just couldn't make up my mind about it at first.

 

What's everyone torquing the spacer to when installing on the truck? The little sheet of paper I got says to torque the spacers to the same as what the wheels should be. The reason I ask is because in this thread it says to torque them to a lower number.

 

When I picked mine up I asked Lenny and he said 90-95lbs.

 

Oh WOW! That's significantly more than the 70 ft-lbs from @Benson X thread and more than the 83 ft-lbs for the factory spec.

 

Yeah. He might have pulled the number out of his ass for all I know. Or its the tested torque spec. I put mine at 90lbs and called it good. The truck I put them on doesn't see slot of street and definitely not high speeds so I'm not too concerned about it.

 

Well so far I have put the front spacers (1") on and thought I was going to be ok but the passenger side rubbed against the "little front fender flap thing" when backing up with the wheels turned. Removed those quickly and it all seems ok for now. The tires (265/70-17 Duratracs on TRD sport wheels with 50k kilometers) come VERY close to rubbing the standard size RokBlokz mud flaps center screw mount. Hopefully there won't be any issues for a month or so until I get my lift and JBA UCAs installed.

Next year I plan on running 255/85-16 Cooper ST Maxx on 1st gen alloy wheels (which have a 4.5"bs). Since the JBA recommends a 4.5"bs wheel, I decided to run 1" BORA spacers until then so it pushes my TRD Sport wheels (with a 5.5"bs) out 1", effectively giving me a 4.5"bs wheel. As mentioned above, the 265/70-17 Duratracs are very close to the RokBlokz mudflaps so I hope the JBA UCAs move the wheel forward enough to not rub on anything...especially once I get the bigger 258/85-16 tires.

Edit- Ok...after going for a short drive the passenger side is fine but the driver side just rubs on the center mount and center of the mud flap when driving forward or backwards while the steering wheel is approx. one (1) turn to the left. This only seems to be happening when going up curbs or driving slow when the truck is not perfectly level. Damn....I was hoping that there wouldn't be any issues.

Edit edit- I didn't like the rubbing so I removed the spacers for now and will re-evaluate using them once I get my lift and JBA UCAs installed and an alignment.

I thought a leveling kit (3" rear, 2" front) would cut it :/ Cuz I'm not to fond of doing a CMC

 

Why not? It's a fairly benign modification.

 

I'm gonna give the truck to old man after some time, he'd kinda not like cutting into the body :/
