:( Driving Phoenix to Yuma AZ last Thursday night, my transmission gave out. Really didn't see it coming either no warning light come on or felt shakes, etc before hand. I was driving at 75 and it just plain stop working, made some winding sound and then I was able to coast to side of the road. The engine was still running and no problems there.

Fortunately, the warranty will cover the fix and I got a call yesterday from the dealer and they are replacing the transmission. Don't know how long it will take though.

I bought it used in 08, but it was certified. It is rather upsetting. My first Tacoma (01 4x4 DC) ran strong for 7 years without a problem. Still deciding to whether keep it or trade it in. :(

how many miles on your odometer?
did the dealer give you any greif over your lift/ larger tires?
have you regeared because of the lift/ tires?

If they are going to replace the transmission then I would not worry about keeping it.

If they are going to repair it, then I would be worried.

My truck has just over 46,000 miles. No grief on the lift and big tires, which was definitely a concern. The truck was built that way when new by the dealer so all warranty applied to 36k for everything (except suspension, that was handle by shop that provided lift) and 100K powertrain.

It was regeared. They gave me the initial paperwork of the lift when I bought the truck.
