No worries :D I agree with you partially. However in certain industry's I feel unions are a hinderance. I am also a firm believer in karma. A company who doesn't treat their employees well is "crusin for a bruisin."

There are always a small percentage employees that should be fired, then there are the employees who skate that fine line and do just enough to get by. Makes up a big % of many company's including my own. My job with my company is to catch that first small percent that are stealing and get them out of the business so I know completely what you are talking about.

Hey man, I am just a Joe trying to get to the show. We all walk different paths. Believe me, I feel that some times unions hurt thier members. I also feel that some unions protect people who really would be raked over the coals without them. Nobody in our union is looking to be paid more than what they are worth, but I feel we have a good point wanting to bask in a little bit of the companies glow. We have helped make the company strong, we would like to to see some of the rich's trickle down. And in turn, we canhelp the company be stronger. I have had many chances to move up the ladder. I have no one to blame but myself that I make less money than the non-union managers. However, the grocery sector in the NorthEast is wicked. Very different animal than anywhere else in the country. Had I gone that route, gone would family dinners. Every night with my wife. Things I enjoy. Long days and many nights are required, something that was not my idea of where I wanted to be.
You know what? More than 75% of the people who make more money than I am are in worse financial shape. I gotte be doing something right. I and will bet I am out of the business before they are.

You should be proud of what you have made for yourself and defend it. You worked hard, reap the riches I say you seem like you deserve it.

I know you are not a union guy, but thanks for your support.

My company is doing just fine. We don't have a Union. Morale could be better but the pay and benefits are great. I don't see the big need for a union. Has anyone ever heard of Procter and Gamble?

That's great to hear! Congrats on working for such a great company.

For those of us who work for companies who forget the fact that a happy employee makes for a healthy company, a union is good to remind them of that fact. When a large company does extremly well, it is the employee that makes the difference in a highly competitive market.

Not sure what your are talking about. Giant is a sister company of Stop &
I am sad to hear that the refining industry is in tough times. If the companies are unhealthy, the union should make concessions to save jobs. Our company is not unhealthy. In fact, they are very very profitable. So the need for giving things up is not here yet. When the company is really in dire starits I will be the first to endorse changes to the contract.
Shop. Both of which are owned by Royal Ahold in the Netherlands. Both Giant and Stop and Shop are grocery stores not oil companies.

I am not asking anyone to boycott our stores. I posted more as an FYI and if we were to go on strike for some support. Never did I say not to spend money in thier stores. I want everyone to shop there as I want to grab my next 23 years.

    Sorry there was a confusion.

No offense rb, I really do wish you the best of luck, but unions suck and I don't agree with them one bit. They are based on socialistic ideology and take employers by the balls. If you don't like how you're being treated, then quit. Whenever the unions get unhappy they essentially blackmail their employer with a strike. What a bunch of BULLSHIT!

BTW, has anyone heard the latest on AIG? Well they will be making an adjustment that is estimated to be over 5 BILLION dollars because they essentially "underestimated" how bad they were hit by defaulted home loans. And we're bailing them out?! Ughh!!! Where's the free market in which this country was founded? I guess the invisible hand truly is invisible because it doesn't exist.

Sorry guys, this stuff is flat out frustrating.

Hey man, no offense taken. Different strokes for different folks. I think you mis-read my post. In no way was I complaining of how I was treated. I just want a fair deal and feel my company is trying to low-ball the union yet rewarding non-union people with big money. I don't want big money, just a fair deal. Reducing pension payments, not giving out raises, reducing sick and bereavment days etc is not my idea of fair when the company is very very profitable.

Too bad you are so sour on unions. They are not all that bad as you think.

    Have a great one!

No worries! Very easy to confuse with both names being Giant.

I hope both sides can come to a mutual agreement. I do not want my union to be so un-realistic as they make ridiculous demands. Nor do I want the company to get everything from our backs and yet hand out big money to non-union. If the company feels it needs to reign in costs, it should be done across the board. Not just from one piece of the puzzle IMO.

    Thanks for your support!

You should know about soap boxes the way you and blackisbeautiful (BB) want us all to believe unions are the savior of American workers. If anything they are bleeding our manufacturing industry dry, I know NAFTA didnt do us any favor but if every union didnt demand such ridiculous wages for even the unskilled jobs maybe we could produce something of quality in this country for a reasonable price. If anybody here is jealous it seems to me it would be you & BB.

TEGDOG. I am with you 100%!! I too am in sales. I am an "evil" car salesman. (VW). I always found it interesteing that MOST Union workers (my brother is a UNION guy) want to get paid a "fair" wage but never want to pay a fair price for a product.

We had UAW workers protesting in front of our dealership a few weeks ago because VW is building a plan in Chattanoga,TN. Tenn. is a right to work state. I guess creating about 40,000 American jobs is a bad thing...

The UAW did a real good job for American car companys, just ask GM and Chrysler. Thanks to Uncle Obama, out tax dollars are continuing to subsidize building crappy vehicles.

I too am sick and tired of the entitlement attitude in our society and especially Unions.

"The cream rises to the top"
You should be good enough at what you do to be able to stand on your own two feet and be successful on your own merits.
    Down with Unions...
