Hey I've been interested in off roading and have a stock 17 TRD sport 4x4, what is the best way for me to get into this. Should I've gotten a off road instead?

Got a 3 month early birthday present and installed it tonight. Kobolt (betterbuilt) tool box. After some searching online, it seems as they just started selling this model (61.5x20x13 black). Anyway, already got figuring out how to modify the inside to my likings.

You'll be surprised how capable your truck is, my buddy has the 17 sport 2wd & his only upgrade is bfg kO2 in 285's with spacer lift & his taco offroads well. Find some dirt, give a try, air down if you have to and have fun wheelin'.

I have 4x4 Sport. I got a set of AT tires and a skid plate, then I went out and found some dirt. It has been willing and capable of going places my brain was having second thoughts about. Get out there and get dirty. OR owners would have believe you shouldn't leave the mall parking lot with your sport. Nonsense. IMG_0075.jpg 20160904_102551.jpg20160903_111802.jpg

I know some dirt roads around here where my wife's Civic could fly over them at 50mph... It really depends on the location of the dirt

Here is camping in Death Valley

Ok, any basics I should learn first? I also need to find some trails or something around the DC, Maryland, Virginia area.

Researching legal areas to off road might be a start. That's one of the harder parts in some areas

Went out with my wife's side of the family. They live in the desert....

    First their Duramax broke.
    20170415_195836.jpg

Then they got stuck in the mud. They enjoy getting stuck and recovering each other. I don't play in Lake bed mud anymore... Not after last time..... 20170415_202538.jpg
Then we went up a sketchy road and I almost put a boulder into my door. Didn't get any pictures because it was dark

Most of I would suggest is plan, prep, safety related.

Look before going, whether it's prep for the weekend or prep for that challenge in the road ahead.

Have the right tools and equipment on hand. Gloves, shovel, basic tools, tow strap, etc.

Get some old school maps. Gps is great for highways, but often doesn't have any minor trails and paths.

Tell someone where you're headed, and go have fun.

Does the side-walk count as off-roading?
