Went from 1st gen to 3rd gen, love new truck! Huge upgrade from my 1st gen manual. First ever auto trans I have owned, so happy I made the move to auto. It works great so far.

Test drove f150 and Colorado diesel, liked tacoma.

I am absolutely befuddled as to how so many people like the performance of this truck. I found it to be completely gutless up to 3000 rpm. That's where "trucks" need their power band to be.
Please, someone enlighten me as to why so many like this kind of no balls, high reving, tin can sounding, pussy footing...
All that aside, other than the whale mouth, I like the look. Especially the interior.

You must not use the ECT button. It bring the truck to life. Also if you press the gas petal down more it makes it go faster.

Maybe because it performs fine? Pulled my camper around fine. Not racing a corvette off the line over here. Not saying it couldn't be better, but it isn't shit either.

Loved my 4Runner, it just finally wore out. A new taco took the sting out of replacing it though. Love the old school IROC!

The ECT button makes it rev higher to where the power is.... I get that.

you are contradicting yourself. you must mean "use the ECT button" because, yes it brings the truck to life.

You have to wind this thing up like a leaf blower to get into the power

I don't think anyone on this Forum has recently complained about the whistling from the Lower A Arms unless its been a New Member before the White Nights attacked them, plus it seems as Toyota is now plugging the Arms on the Assembly Line. You really need to forget about that Gauntlet test as it obviously favors the characteristics, full throttle over a long period of time. The every day Tacoma Owner does not use their Truck on a daily basis as the equivalent of that test, even Seatbelt Mike mentioned the Average Owner has heavy towing down on the want list as there are many better choices out there for that job. I have no idea what your Tacoma Ownership History is, I have owned one First Gen, two Second Gens, and now a Third Gen, the Third is just lacking in low end Torque, if it had the same low end of the Second Gen it would damn near be perfect.

i posted long ago i went from a 2008 4.0 to the 2016 3.5, bought it the 2nd day on the lot. later i wished i had shopped earlier and bought the 2015 last year of the 4.0.
only saving grace is the ECT function it makes the truck feel like the 4.0. IMO.

That's how sports cars work Smitty, not trucks.

I agree it is an undesirable characteristic of this truck. Drives me batshit

Why don't they just put the truck in ECT 100% of the time and have a Gutless button when you dont need power?

Like my 2016 but would say my 2004 had better build quality.

Yanno, I'm from v8 power and low end torque spectrum...but I'm also from the two stroke fold as well. This buggy runs with a two stroke pedigree...I punched up into the 4500+ range and it felt like a small turbo kicked in. From other comments it sounds like it enjoys the high power band...let the experimentations continue

The 3.5l is too small for a 4500 lb truck. Maybe it should be a base engine and optional engine should be a 4.6l.
