It used to be that non commercial license plates started with 3 letters, then numbers/letters after that. Commercial plates always started with a single number, then a single letter, then numbers/letters. Unless of course you had custom plates or disabled plates (as I have).

So does this mean I can park in the loading zone in front of buildings and walk in? Since its a commercial truck?

They're still used only for active loading/unloading. So.. no, not legally to be used as a parking space.

    Yay, I'm on this bandwagon.

I also workout with a CHP officer and they closed that canopy "loophole" for re-registering your truck as a passenger vehicle.

He had a F250 registered that way and they reverted it on him. So first hand experience there.

Because the reg fees are 80$ more a year on a tacoma? Lol, that is the subject of this thread. But hey, if 80$ is breaking you then yup, you prolly should leave.

More like "the hair that broke the camels back"

This state hemorrhages money. Why do they dig deeper into my pocket to bail themselves out?

While living in SF I watched stuff like parking tickets go from an inconvenience to an expensive mistake. Parking on the sidewalk was 35$ in 2001 and it was a chance I was willing to take after a long work day and not finding a spot. You didn't get caught every time so it averaged out to around 12 bucks a pop. This was during the tech bubble so on my block there would be almost as many cars on the sidewalk as in actual street parking spaces. Considered part of the cost of living, as it were. By 2014 the ticket had increased to 110$. Not as a deterrent but as a way to squeeze more $ out of the residents of SF. All parking violations saw similar "hockey stick" increases.
The commercial registration of tacomas/small trucks however has been around for decades, but I could see how it might come as a surprise to some. I certainly wasn't warned at the dealership when I was buying any of my 3 tacoes.

Is this the "FUCK California" thread? Am I too late? Cuz fuck California. Everytime a local says California is the best place ever I want to vomit. Then you ask them if they lived anywhere else in the country. Guess what the answer is.....

If you have a camper shell bolted on (permanent mount) you can take it to Highway patrol and have them sign off on it to change it to a passenger vehicle. Registration is then cheaper.
