The low end torque is exactly what it's missing and without it, it cannot be called a truck. Maybe I'm old fashioned but that's my view.

I don't understand why people on here complain about a 3.5L V6 not having hp, power, guts, etc. If you wanted that and 400 HP, you should have spent the $50,000 or so on a Raptor or high end Ram. come on now!!!

Nobody is complaining about the lack of power. It's where the power is found. It's at the end instead of the beginning. Read a bit more before you open your mouth.

This Thread is about going from a 2nd to 3rd Gen, the 3rd lacks the Low End Torque of the 2nd, no one was bitching that it does not have 400HP.

" no balls. high reving, tin can sounding, pussy footing".... I'm sorry I misunderstood that this wasn't about the lack of power, no matter where it is. I like my Taco and I call it a truck.

Ntm the 2nd gen also has crap low end. I'm always in the pedal even compared to my crappy 3rd gen 4runner 3.4l. Even wife said i have to half gas to get anywhere. She also used to her old expedition with v8 5.4l.

If the 3rd is worse I would be very upset. Not to mention the trans issues.

I talked with a 3rd gen guy at a light. He romped it hard and wife's 2012 stayed right with him. He was a little upset.

Go drive the diesel Colorado or the v6, they don't feel anymore powerful, I drove them both.

I test drove the baby duramax was contemplating trading in awhile back. It accelerates smoother and has a more responsive throttle (better low end torque). I didn't care for the interior nor the depreciation hit I was going to have to take on trade.

It also gets amazing gas mileage. If the trade wasn't going to eat me for 5 grand I probably would have seriously considered making the switch. The ZR2 looks very enticing. New Ford Ranger will hopefully be a competitor too. They've already said it will have a redesigned exterior styling from the current international models available. A turbo ecoboost would be killer in the midsize.

I thought the V6 in the 17 Canyon I test drove felt noticeably more powerful than that of my Tacoma. I'm sure the diesel in the twins is even more impressive, but the price point makes no sense to me for a midsize truck.

I don't find the 600 RPM difference for the same torque in the 3rg gen vs. the 4.0 to be that big of deal, the motor likes to spin, so I just spin it up if needed. The additional HP the 3rd has over the 2nd more than makes up for it.*

*YMMV. My truck seems to be working normally.

Sitting at 5k and I drive it like I stole it. Zero issues, except resisting the urge to blow money on upgrades. Test drive it, do an extended test drive to make sure the ergonomics are good for you.

I looked at everything else out there and liked the Tacoma the most for many reasons including trim levels and styling. The Frontier is yawn factor 10. The Colorado/Canyon are plain ugly no matter what you do to them. Ford, well, *snort* they have been missing the boat for a long while by not bringing the world market Ranger to the states. VW is in the same boat with the Amarok. Doesn't leave many options in the mid size market.

If you plan on modifying it a lot, skip the OR and invest that difference of money into a SR5 4x4 for aftermarket goods. Crawl control and some of the other wheeling gadgets aren't necessary if you can actually drive.

    Happy shopping!
