Factory security system

Is it worth getting an aftermarket alarm?

My truck has stock door locks and the red light (no dealer alarm add ons)

Looking into getting a little more security

 

Don't think the off-road can have an alarm. I have the glass break sensor and that's about it. There are a bunch of threads on he subject with 3rd gens.

 

I did a couple searches and didn't come up with much..

 

I have a 16 TRD 4x4 DCSB MT and have the stock alarm as well as my son who has the same but has the 17. We don't have glass sensors but it arms itself once the door is closed with the key fob

 

I had this put on my TRD OR the day after I bought it.

It's what I had installed in my 2016.

Don't know I had the the dealership install it for $150. I know they had to use the tech stream for part of the install, so unless you have one of those laying around...

I'll need to ask them, the glass break would be good to have. I'd rather a broken window and nothing missing because some cock sucker was scared away by an alarm than a broken window and all my shit missing.

 

I think the techstream will do it. I believe I sen u get into the computer of the truck it switch from no to yes. Or disable to enable. I have the cable and software. I didn't have on my build sheet nor did I ask for it from factory. Checked when I got the truck and it was on.

 

I have a '16 TRD OR and I just assumed it had an alarm of some sort from the factory. I have the little light on the dash that blinks red. Is this not the case?

 

I need to know this also.

 

Damn if I remember who, but I think one of the vendors on here made an alarm that was pretty reasonably priced and worked with the ECu..

No. That's the engine immobilizer. To test if you have it. While in the truck lock the truck with your key fob. Hit the lock twice. Now open the door from the inside. Don't unlock with the fob. Just open door. Alarm should sound.

 

Curious to know why you think this? I had the factory alarm removed and installed a Viper alarm/remote start

 

Stock alarm is a joke, had a '16 limited and someone broke the driver window and almost got the radio completely out and the alarm never went off. Get an aftermarket for sure. I had a Viper with glass break and tilt sensor installed and love it.

 

WTH that doesn't sound reassuring for anyone like myself that had the stock one installed.

 

Stock alarm does exactly what it does. Makes noise if someone reaching in and unlocks/opens a door. Doesn't do anything beyond that.

You can add a glass breakage sensor, but I don't know how sensitive it is or isn't.

If you need more functionality than the above, you'll need to go aftermarket.

I'm surprised anyone went after a factory headunit this days.

 

Maybe I didn't have a factory alarm, is that even possible with a Limited? Seeing as the Limited is the 'top of line' I assumed an alarm came on it since whenever I locked it the red blinking light on the dash came on. If it did, the stock alarm is a complete joke as it made no noise whatsoever even with a glass break and opening the door... But I traded that Limited in on an Off Road and had a 2-way Viper alarm put on the same day.
