I've seen the stabilizing braces for 2nd gens, they look like 90° angle steel and they bolt into the inside of the rear bed corners.

Anyone make something similar for 3rd gens?

I'd like to get some and modify them a bit so I can quickly add and remove a steel bar across the inside of the tailgate. I don't like laying heavy stacks of lumber on my closed tailgate and thought it would be nice to have a piece of steel to help take the weight.

The 2nd gen brackets you are talking about should work in the third gen, the bed is the same except its height.

I could lay the tailgate down and I agree it would be safer but it sure makes for easier hauling to just stack the lumber on the closed gate. Don't have to worry about stuff sliding out. I haul alot of 10 foot boards in my long bed taco with a toolbox...o_O

These do fit third gens the same as second gens: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...owns-for-second-and-third-gen-tacomas.476123/

If these are the lights you're talking about, I can't see why they wouldn't work together.

Actually, the metal vertical section/pillar that the braces attach to are narrower on the 3rd gen so the bolts in the bed cannot be used with the 2nd gen Total Chaos braces. The braces need the holes along the bottom arm to be moved further back in order to fit. Therefore, no, the 2nd gen braces will not work in a 3rd gen.

Maybe some manufacturers make ones that will work on both. I assisted with an instal of 2nd gen Total Chaos bedside braces this weekend and they would definitely not work on a 3rd gen.

Mine do indeed work on third gens, six or seven guys have them installed. @PowerGuy just posted pics of them installed on his third gen. :notsure:

Who was the manufacturer? The Total Chaos 2nd gen braces will not fit a 3rd gen.
