When do I change my oil?

alright So i got another question lol.
How often do you change the oil on a 1997 Toyota Tacoma. I wish I could check my manual but when I got my truck it didn't have one. Some bullshit I know. But anyways I know everyone says 3k miles but I heard it depends on what oil you're using. Compared to conventional or synthetic.
I changed the oil today on my truck and I used Castro edge high mileage 5w-30 full synthetic.
So my question is, how often do I change my oil ?? Thanks everyone

 

Toyota calls for 5k mile intervals which is very common among manufacturers. That's what I use on all my cars even though I use synthetic oil.

 

8 thousand kms or ten depending on how far you drive and how hard! Nice thing bout the 3rd gens is 16 thousand kms

 

3-5K is the norm.

 

The third Wednesday of every month?

 

Every 3k-5k miles. Check periodically.

 

I know my old 98 tacoma started to sound louder every time I was around 3500 miles on oil...soon as I changed the oil lifters quieted down back to normal.

 

I normally change it at 3k but sometimes I feel like that comes by too quick. I do drive a lot in my truck because it's my everyday truck so I guess that makes sense.
I just wanted to see what everyone had to say. I just wanted to see if the Toyota manual said otherwise

 

I used Amsoil that was 25,000 miles or a year. I think they recommended changing the filter every 3-5 and top off whatever. I used it on my Nissan with no ill effects.

 

Weird. Mine gets louder right around 4k miles.

 

I go 4500 - 5k if I'm busy, with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

 

What oil you runnin brah?

 

I do it every 5k cause then it lines up with my odo so the next will be at 235k then 240k and so forth. I would go longer but i would forget when to change it..

 

That's how I do it too. The light on the Chevy seems to know it also, so 5K seems to be a pretty good #.

 

Once a month which turns out to be between 3 and 5 thousand miles

I had the problem with noisy lifters I had to take the box out of the truck much more quiet now

 

It's not domestic, run 10k easy. If you really think that's over stepping it, throw a magnet on your oil pan and tell me that's cutting your engine life in half. I've personally seen taco motors run more than 300k with less than 2 oil changes.

For what its worth, I hit rev limiter and run well over 4k rpm in my truck all the time and still do 12-15k on my oil.

 

The only people that consist of "everyone" that says every 3k miles are trying to sell you oil. Best $$$ making campaign in oil history.

Unless you're running a 70s engine with lots of blow by you're just doing money down the drain. Run 10k, send a sample off and odds are you can get another 2 to 5 out if it.

 

Well tbh the cheapest oil at wallmart probably isn't any different than name brand. I worked with a guy that worked in a packaging plant (whatever is called in that industry). Said the only thing they changed going from name brand to the generic was the label.

 

WalMart Supertech is Valvoline. From transmission fluid to axles and engine oil.

 

I honestly don't know how you guys are okay with changing it at 10k+. Mine is black as hail at 5k.
