So I could use some mechanical expertise here...
Battery died on me this afternoon, AAA came out and gave me a jump and I picked up a new one.
But just got it home (having installed the new battery already) and the truck is idling lower than normal. I think it idles around 800-900rpm if I remember correctly...?
Now its idling at 500-550rpm. Its not coughing or sputtering but it sounds like its just above where that would happen.

I am not mechanically inclined at all, so any thoughts? Could it be the alternator starting to go?

    2008, stick shift, 4x4, 6-speed, 4.0l.
    Any help is appreciated!

Didn't somebody in here just have this with a car replacement battery? Think the advice was don't worry about it. It'll adjust itself in time.

Has this happened before? Does the idle speed jump around or stay steady?

If steady then the computer typically has to relearn after losing power. This includes idle speed. Has to do with the throttle plate position sensor.

Easy to check alternator with an volt meter. At the battery it should be around 12.5 - 14 volt. Edit: at idle.

If you want to force the learning curve just let your truck idle for 10-15 minutes.

If it's jumping around like when the fan kicks on etc then might be a vacuum leak etc etc. Go from there.

Edit: I'm dealing with something similar with my wife's car. Lots of google-fu...

Doesnt jump around so shouldn't be a vacuum leak. I'll go sit in it for a little bit with the idle on and see if it corrects the problem. Didn't know the computer had to relearn the power curve. Thanks for the idea

What was wrong with the clutch? Out of curiosity.

My wife's car does the opposite. It idles super high for awhile. I'm chasing an electrical gremlin so I keep diconnecting the battery. Also her idle is rough but not enough to stall, yet. Good times.

Nothing is wrong. Your PCM looses its memory when replacing a battery. It needs to relearn idle speed and all the other stuff for it to run correctly. Just go drive for 20mins or so and will be back to normal.

Just after I disconnect the battery and only until the computer figures it out.

Then it idles normally until the electric fan kicks on then the idle gets rough.

I've replaced the spark plugs, battery, alternator, cleaned the throttle plate and a bunch of other vacuum related stuff. I don't think they're all related but the rough idle bothers me.

It might be the throttle plate sensor itself but I'm not super stoked on throwing parts at it until it stops. It hasn't stalled yet so I'm just keeping an eye on it at this point.

Also get sparadic CEL lights that seem to be temp sensitive. ABS wheel sensor maybe...

Just for refrence this is an '07 Acura RDX.

I hate when people do engine swaps but don't post pics of the engine in the CL ad. Typically that's their biggest selling point.

Looks pretty cool, although I do love the simplistic interior of the 60's, so that's kind of a bummer but I'm sure it's super comfortable now.

But diffs are designed to rotate at different speeds, inside and out. When 4wd is engaged, does something lock the diff so it doesn't vary the speeds of inner/outer tires?

Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand what is happening between 2wd and 4wd.
